this is a very disturbing trend i have used newegg for like 10 years they were always the mainstream pricing..am i really goign to have to finish my build from B&H photo LMAO?

Check amazon for the same parts.

Newegg has an aggressive automated price adjuster based on current demand so prices can shoot up very quick. However the prices will fluctuate on most items from week to week.

well they just lost a 10 year customer over it. some guy in a suit thought that was a great idea, however it pisses all over their reputation.

ive ordered small stuff on amazon but never liked how random resellers fill orders for them on some things.

Sometimes i purchase parts at www.directron.com. Just dont burn up parts overclocking and expect to be able to send them back. Sometimes small shops have parts longer than at other places. Seems like people should be starting to have Back To School sales soon. That is something to look for. They dont sell ASROCK Motherboards.

It's pretty standard practice in the e-tailer age. If you think Amazon, Best Buy, NCIX and the other major online stores don't do the exact same thing, you're kidding yourself.

The key to buying computer parts is to investigate the class of component you need and hunt for deals, not get locked into one exact model.

Amazon was selling a 20 dollar video game for 100 dollars. Every site uses an algorithm to determine the price. (The number they have in stock vs the number they are selling)

I use pcpartpicker.com to find the cheapest price.

Two things to be aware of.

1) Pricing can change on anything you can pay money for. How's gas prices in your area these days? Is it just the gas station overcharging you, or are the oil companies charging the gas stations more? Is the price of beef higher for anyone else? My local supermarket raised prices since a few months ago. Rage!

2) Sale pricing /= regular pricing. Don't confuse the two.

Here are some historic price charts for Newegg and Amazon (thanks to "Camel" sites). Note that not only does the price not stay static, but that it can go up as well as down.

How dare they raise prices in a common place effort to maximize revenues and profits! What do they think this is, a business?

NE is not above price gouging when something has a low supply. They are notorious for it. Have been for many years now. To be fair however they are not the only ones to do it. NE just gets more hyped about it because they sell to so many people. I'm a NE consumer but I know to shop around and not to be customer loyal because NE isnt always the better place to buy from.

You don't pay different prices by the hour for products like consumer durables at target/wallmart. What newegg is taking advantage that it has become a popular enough internet store that many people are going to assume that the prices are going to be competitive or low.

I think that's economics 101. High demand and low supply means that prices go up. It's better to have the product available for a high price for those who are willing to pay than it is to price it too low and sell out.

For example, if you were in business and you really really needed an ASRock H77 Pro4/MVP because a critical system was down, you'd rather pay $200 it than for it to be sold out because the price was set artificially low.

I believe Samboy may have hit the nail on the head
Wrong...
Yesterday was a full moon phase vs two weeks ago when it was a new moon.
High prices in a full moon phase, lower prices during a new moon.
:colbert: Hmm... Coincidence or Correlation?

CX430 isn't $25, but $45! It's the end of the world!
But XFX P1-650X-XXB9 650W is $50 after rebate. :hmm:

So congratulations, you don't know how to use Newegg.

I put together around 20 builds a month, and after you combo up and take into account shipping, Newegg ends up with the lowest price for mobo, CPU (except G2020 [Amazon]), video card, RAM, DVD-R, PSU, and case nearly every time. Hard drive depends on whether you have something else over at NCIX that puts it over $100 for the free shipping.

You found out that Newegg is rarely the lowest on that one item of a typical high-end build: SSDs.
BFD.
Don't know why you'd waste money on the Pro. The additional write speed over the regular 840 is meaningless in desktop use. 120GB 840 is $93 at Adorama. 250GB is $165 at NCIX.

Your right it is Economics 101 but when store b and store c down the road and have it in stock for a considerable less then its price gouging. Or if say its in low supply and the store runs the price exceedingly higher than reasonable then it too is price gouging. NE has done this many times. Like I said shop around and dont be store loyal.

So during that ten years of being a customer, you always assumed they had the lowest price and never shopped around? <shrug> I always compared prices when I shop online. As far reputation goes, maybe I am wrong but I didn't think Newegg had the rep for always being the cheapest place to get something. Sure, they occasionally had great sales and they usually have a great selection but the cheapest?

ive ordered small stuff on amazon but never liked how random resellers fill orders for them on some things.

Amazon always indicates where a product is selling from and who is shipping it. Last time I checked, you could also limit your searches to Amazon only products if you so choose.

I agree with both of these
