Newegg or Amazon?

Depends on the item, price, shipping, and tax.
So basically where you live(tax or no tax) and the current price of the item and shipping at the time - varies so much you just have to spot check.

I live in Texas, so no taxes in either of those websites. Free shipping with standard 2-14 business days of shipping for Amazon.

What more could I have added to my OP then?

Aside from your location, what specific item(s) you were interested in and when you intended to purchase them. Computer parts are so volatile in price that no one store/outlet has the best price all the time. Then there's the whole issue of rebates, coupons and/or, short term sales. Open box? What's the intended use for the parts? What is your normal usage for your computer? All these things play a role in deciding where to buy your parts. Why limit yourself to just Newegg or Amazon?

I was thinking of the EVGA Superclock CPU Cooler, Crucial M4 SSD, DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Skyrim, Battlefield 3 from amazon and the Corsair Carbide 400R, Radeon 7850 CF, UltraSharp U2412M, Crucial Ballistix sport 8gb dual channel RAM, and MASSCOOL Shin Etsu Thermal Paste from Newegg. I am buying the Hard Drive and XFX Core850W PSU at NCIX USA and the CPU+MOBO at Microcenter.

It really depends on each item, as previously mentioned. I've found a lot of the time that Amazon will list cheaper, but cost more for shipping [compared to Newegg]. So take that into consideration.

I did a complete build a month ago, got MB,case, and ram from Amazon, rest from Newegg. As others mentioned shop and take in consideration shipping. Got free shipping from Amazon.

Both. Recently built a few identical SFF systems and got the cases from Amazon because while they were around 55 cents more per case, Newegg charged $10 shipping and Amazon was free saver shipping.

I do like Newegg's site navigation a lot more - just easier to find stuff. Also, I have a pet theory that Amazon wants everyone to be on Prime or pay extra for faster shipping, because if you choose the free saver shipping option your items won't actually ship for a few business days, almost as if they were sitting on it just because. IDK if true, but has happened very often for me.

Much of what Amazon sells is through sub-vendors. I would do this on a case by case basis and compare the bottom line, apples to apples. What Zap says is true - there is some degree of throttling on free shipping orders.

A consideration for me is the location of the item. Newegg generally comes from California, and that is a 3 day ground ship to me in Arizona. If the source is in the East or Midwest, a day or two will be added for me.

And, for small items, I will now choose USPS for shipping. I find it more reliable than UPS locally.

So, really, the short answer is indeed "yes." 🙂

Does Amazon offer bundled shipping for computer parts? One gripe I have with newegg is no bundled shipping and it adds up.

I received my motherboard and ram from Amazon in a week, ordered on a Saturday and received on a Saturday. The case took only 2-3 days, same order, same shipping. So most likely depends on the item and where it is coming from.

i hate amazon and generally only order from them if they have a product i want at the best price (for everything, not just computer stuff). I use newegg for over 90% of computer stuff because they have the best price, a wide variety of shipping choices (ups or fedex, or cheap dhl and usps for light packages), and I can use ebates with newegg.

Not usually...but if your order total is more than $25 in goods eligible for free shipping...then it all ships for free.

Of course, if you have a large order, simply sign up for the free trial of Prime...place your order, get free 2-day shipping...then cancel Prime before the free trial ends. (unless you're a student...then get a free Prime account)

it's important to note that the over $25 beans free shipping only applies to items sold and shipped by amazon. items sold from vendors in their marketplace may tack on shipping costs (and usually do)

I can apply for both Prime and Newegg's 2-day free shipping, so shipping costs don't concern me. Neither do taxes.
