Yes, they are. They figured they could make an extra $2,000 a year in profits by having the Stride team grab your cell along with your gum.

> probably just an error, someone put the wrong code in the computer.

Unpossible!

They'll send the Phone police to your house D:

If anything just show them your Newegg reciept.

I can't imagine newegg would do this knowingly, if they did it at all (e.g., the error wasn't on Sprint's end). Top companies in a dog eat dog market don't actively try to shit their own reputation down the toilet for what would be a trivial amount.

It wouldn't surprise me too much if the error was on Sprint's end. They screw up plenty, from my limited experience.

Edit: Though Newegg got busted for selling totally fake Core i7 CPUs. So they do sometimes use shady suppliers.

It looks like Newegg's cellphone section is redirected to http://cellstores.com. I can't tell if Newegg or Cellstores is actually providing the phones.

As far as "Open Box", Newegg has long said that those will only include the main item and there's no guarantee of boxing, accessories, etc. I've gotten power supplies just wrapped in a bag, motherboards just wrapped in a bag, as well as complete Abit motherboards with box and all accessories "like new".

I've been buying from Newegg for ten years now and have spent about $15,000 there and have never had a problem with a shipped item (other than one or two "open box" items).

Never had a problem with Newegg purchases till now, but this is ridiculous. I mean, selling a stolen cellphone like that to a customer. Even if it is an error on Sprint's part I think the buyer should get in touch with Newegg and make them deal with this issue. Either that or take it up with the authorities. I'm sure Newegg would rather solve this the easy way than have their reputation tarnished.

Larry, we get it... You don't like Newegg. :\
But I just can't turn away from them with all their Promo emails. The hot deals are just too hot to resist.

this has actually happened to me before on a phone i bought from the sprint store, like a week after my phone was activated someone else reported theres stolen, and when it was entered into the stolen database someone had pushed 1 wrong key and it was showing that i recieved the stolen phone.
nobody that called could fix the error so i called support and got a phone swap.

OMG, Sprint store is selling stolen phones too!!!!!!

It's very, very unlikely that they did.

It's definitely an error on Sprints end. Newegg just has it in a box. They never turn it on at all. It is possible if it was an "open box" item that there was a series of mistakes made. Newegg may have made a mistake in allowing the return of a phone they sold you after it had been activated, but that's as far as the mistake on newegg's end would have went, and that's more testament to newegg being a generous retailer than it is them being shady.
