Newegg now charging tax?

Anybody know when this started? I went there to buy a 9800 pro and noticed I was being charged 34 bucks in tax.

They charge tax in CA and NJ, AFAIK. Maybe they're expanding. What state are you in?

I never completed the order. I saw the tax and backed out of it.

Tennesse??? COOL! That's right next door to NC which means that

1) I'll probably get my shipments even faster and
2) They probably wouldn't open up a warehouse in NC since they have on in TN which means no tax still

same way i felt when the NJ one opened. its really close to NY and PA. i now get things in 2 days instead of 3

IIRC, Ingram Micro has a warehouse here in TN. Maybe they're doing direct shipping from there.

boo for newegg tax in NJ.. was going to order a new compy, but now i think i'll wait until i move to MD in a few weeks. hm, maybe i can get something better with the $ i'll save heh heh

i am sure it is in or near memphis, close to the FedEx grand poobah hub....that really sux, I live in Knoxville, Tenn has 9.25% tax. eeeegads

When does it show you the sales tax being charged? I'm in TN as well, and picked that as my ship to state, but I don't see anything yet about tax. I have a total w/ shipping but have not progressed to the final submit order stage as I haven't added everything to my cart.

Argh!! Never mind...I just noticed the taxes on the final step of the order. I guess now I'll just have to ship to my in-laws. They live in Kentucky about 30 minutes away. Worth the drive to avoid the taxes. We already go there to buy groceries since KY doesn't tax them.

9.25% sales tax! I would have to move.

I have to pay 8.6%, so I just started ordering everything online. Pretty much the only thing I buy locally is stuff I get from the grocery store.

Closer to Illinois ... just stay in Tennessee, Indiana, Wisconsin, or Iowa and they have a loyal shopper .

LOL, sounds like a really GREAT reason NOT to live in TN.

Wow, I remember when they came out with the message that they had opened another warehouse, but I never thought that this would affect other's taxes. Still, small price to pay. This also seems like it could be "creatively" done, you know: you "actually" buy the item from the CA store, but get it from the TN warehouse, since the actual "purchase" was the CA store, you don't have to pay taxes. Or am I all fuggered up in that thinking?
