NewEgg no longer displays shipping charges?!?

My friend was browsing NewEgg, looking at cases. I noticed something strange, no shipping charges were being shown, as they usually are (except for a few labeled free shipping).

Is this NewEgg's new way to confuse customers, limiting the data that they need to fully compare prices on a purchase? I think it's downright sneaky, and will make me think twice about shopping at NewEgg in the future, if only because I will have to take extra steps just to figure out the total shipped cost of item (place in cart, type zip code, click go, click remove item from cart).

Yeah, I just saw the same thing tonight.

Grrrr....

Rat bastards! Now I have to add the item to my cart to see the shipping charges, then remove it if I'm not happy with the cost. Add that to the steadily increasing shipping cost and they're no longer the lowest price in town many times recently. I mean, $9 to ship a fan to me? Are you guys kidding?

EDIT: I wonder how long it will be before they pull the "items with free shipping" from the search options?

I don't see how this can be a good move for Newegg. In addition to rising shipping charges (despite the price of gas now falling sharply), you just made your interface less user-friendly.

On top of that, concealing the shipping charges makes it look like you have something to hide.

I'd like the shipping info readily available at all times. One item is still pretty steep on shipping from Newegg. Multiple items aren't that bad.

The thing with Newegg is that when you buy multiple items, they reduce your shipping on each item. The changes in how shipping is displayed might actually be due to the fact that they reduce your shipping charges on multiple items.

I don't like the changes but I can live with them.

Newegg hasn't been the cheapest all-around for a while. Micro Center has been beating Newegg in popular CPU pricing. ProVantage is better with cases. Buy.com of all places is often cheaper on power supplies (and almost always free shipping). Heck, Buy.com was the place that had $36AR Corsair 450W PSUs and $50AR BFG LS-550 PSUs - a lot cheaper than Newegg.

Right now I was looking at the Antec NSK3480 case. Newegg's pricing was $99.99 with no mention of shipping. Add to cart, showed $22 as cheapest shipping. WTF? Frys.com has it for $44.99 with no rebates and $10.02 for shipping.

That totally blows. Newegg just figured out how to make shopping there even more difficult, brilliant. Big, fat fail for newegg.

If it weren't for the fact that Newegg always has what I want in stock, I'd shop elsewhere. Their shipping charges SUCK to my location. Additionally, their shipping department/methods have gone way downhill.

They have begun saving money by using less tape to close the box. Seriously, think about it. How many boxes per day do they ship out? Five thousand? Ten thousand? Something like that, I'm sure. If you scrimp on TAPE you could save thousands of dollars per month.

I just received a box yesterday with 3 sets of server rack rails in it. This was to replace the last order they sent me that arrived with the bottom of the box busted open b/c there was once piece of tape holding it closed and my stuff fell out somewhere b/t here and there. I received an EMPTY box. Let's see; 25 pounds of metal in a box...let's close it with one piece of tape.

I put in a claim, NE sent me a new shipment...and you guessed it. One piece of tape BARELY holding the box closed. At least this time my merchandise didn't fall out. I emailed them yesterday to let them know about their "tape problem."

ps
Over the past 10 years I have easily spent $10K with them. Easily.

I agree they have been slipping. Their shipping methods are not as good as they once were. But one reason I've always liked shopping there is because they display shipping prices when looking at the item, taking that away is one less reason for me to shop there.

If everyone feels strongly about this, keep posting in this thread. I'm not saying they always do, but Newegg has people reading this forum. I had an issue with them once, they refused to help, I posted about it here, and a few hours later they had called and resolved the issue by replacing the item in question.

Not every product has removed the price of shipping, seems to just be products in the computer case category. Video cards and software still have shipping costs listed.

No, they do not.:( Go look at this page; shipping is only listed for items where it is free.:(

Newegg really has become Screwegg, now.

If shipping is not listed, why would anyone assume that it would be free?
Many sites don't list shipping rates on the same page as the item.

I still see it as a bad call but what they may have been thinking is that people were seeing the $5-$9 shipping when they were looking for items not knowing that if you buy multiple items all those shipping prices do not add up.

Ex. Shipping on a laptop HDD = 7.29
Shipping on a laptop external case 6.99
Shipping for both items together 9.92

So if a consumer was just browsing they may get the false idea that shipping for the combined order would be ~$15.

I still want them to go back to the way it was though (or atleast give us the ability to toggle under account settings)

This is the reply I received from Newegg Customer Support after submitting a complaint about the removal of the shipping costs from the product page.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting Newegg.

We do apologize for our change on our item page. Please note that the shipping price has been removed from the actual item page on our website. If the item has free shipping, the Item's page will say free shipping. However, if the item has a shipping fee, there will be no indication of it on our website.

The reason that this change has been made is to more accurately calculate shipping costs on orders with multiple items. Instead of taking each individual shipping cost, adding them together, and giving a small discount, our system should now be able to add the weight of all items together and give a total shipping cost that will ultimately be cheaper for the customer. Please note that in order to get shipping total, our customers should add all items to the shopping chart and input the zip code. Again, we truly apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any further questions or concerns, please click on the link below to visit our FAQs page.

So they do indeed claim this decision to be based around multiple item shipping costs. A simple disclaimer would have been sufficient to explain that multiple items receive shipping discounts not reflected in the shipping listed on this page.

Seems like it always just adds up on my purchases...

That's how it always works for me too. Anyway, I often order a single item at a time (customer needs a video card or DVD burner, not an entire rebuild) and taking out the shipping cost makes it much more difficult for me to judge which item is truly the cheapest.

I've done LOTS of business with them over the last 5ish years (well in excess of $10k, probably over $20k if i looked back through the receipts) and have become less and less likely to actually order from them over the last two years or so. I go there to find the item I need then use one of the search engines to find the best price. Pretty often it's not newegg that gets the business.

Newegg was lying in thier reply to you nycromes I just did a simple test last week no less I had an order from new egg, 4 sticks of ram, cpu, cpu cooler, and mobo, shipping was 8.97.

Well today I decided to see how much "cheaper" the shipping would be on the same items and..

today its 13.85 I'm very disappointed in new egg today (anyone remember the brief time they started showing thier prices after mail in rebates rather than what you got charged), I complained then and it was fixed, I have been anticipating New Egg getting to big start screwing us and it looks as though that time is now. New Egg has never been the cheapest on almost all the thigns they sale but it always seemed to have a cumulative value unless U like ordering from 5 people to build one system, but these kinds of actions are tarnishing thier customer service record. In the last 2 years I've spent 5,000 dollars with newegg, and i've been buying from them since 2001 I'd prolly passout if I added all of those years up its well over 10grand, mostly because of thier good customer service, but things like this are turning me away from the Egg

If they don't want people to see shipping charges...they must not be very good!...

That's of course not always the case, but lack of transparency undermines trust, not to mention is a waste of time getting shipping costs now.

what kind of a response is that? New Egg has definitly increased thier shipping by a lot since this changeover, pretty sad really if your going to increase your prices increase your prices, but don't think customers are too stupid to notice if they are getting jilted on shipping. Guess it'll be Zip Zoom Fly for the case I'm about to order I can save 7 dollars over new eggs price when you add in shipping
