Edit
--------------

Clearly I am an idiot, and sent in some wrong form.....My furious nerd rage blinded me when i got rejected from the rebate....I'll settle this elsewhere.

So, my modem dies. I borrow one from a friend for a few days while I search around for a new one online. I notice that newegg has a deal on a D-Link DCM-202. A $20 rebate off of $50 is pretty nice!

I do some research and about 4 days later i decide to purchase it. I save the rebate to my desktop. Order was placed on 10/29/2007 (the pdf to download the rebate has been hosted on a newegg link for days now)

The product comes, and within the week I postmark the cut out and such to send off.

....here comes the good stuff.

Today i get a postcard from D-Link saying my rebate was rejected because the purchase was made outside the qualifying period. I say what the *bleep* and run to check my purchase date on the email, and double check the PDF.

GUESS WHAT??

the pdf rebate form says the date to quality is 11/1/2007--->12/31/2007

...i placed my order on the 29th and assumed the pdf was good....

what can I do now...newegg basically led me to belive that if i orded it from them I would get the rebate...

I do not get it.

The pdf states 11/1/2007--->12/31/2007

You purchase this at 10/29/2007 I.e 2 days before the rebate Kicked in.

The date that count for Rebate is the purchase date Not when it is delivered.

Then please tell me why newegg was advertising the rebate on their page days before it was active? To screw over customers?

Can't you just return and re-purchase the item? I wonder if newegg would let you do that, and not even send the product back.

Edit: Btw, did you get your free slim DVD-player combo as part of the purchase? I would return and re-buy if I were you, and get the freebie too.

Newegg didn't screw you over, you failed to purchase the item during the designated rebate period.
It all boils down to "read the fine print" before hitting the Enter button.

How's the modem working out?

ah yes, the revolving rebate fiasco at newegg. triple check & bookmark their "rebate form archive" page thing... if you can even find it. They're not screwing anyone I don't think, it's just one thing you have to really triple check before mailing it in since they have *tons* of rebates where when one ends, a seemingly identical one starts the very next day.. except the valid purchase periods are different and do not overlap.

Yeah, I don't get how he diddn't read the rebate before purchasing the item. Isn't the rebate between you and the manufacturer?

Yes and no. If it was strictly between purchaser and manufacturer, then a rebate should be valid no matter where you purchased an item from. However, rebates are almost always limited to purchase from a specific store. Stores negotiate these things with the manufacturers because they know items with rebates tend to sell better. Thus, the store has a vested interest in the rebates they offer.

1) Take a deep breath. Nobody got hurt and $20 is chump change.

2) Go take it out on some computer game. Or, go to the gym and work up a sweat.

3) Shower.

4) Sleep on it.

5) Call Newegg at the number provided above and ask for Alex.
