they better set up a shop here rather than rape us with shipping

this will be really interesting for us though
ncix and directcanada already have pretty good prices (normally better than newegg from what I gather) but selection is what im really interested in
For example LIAN LI in canada is really limited selection

NCIX is still cheaper on the stuff I want to buy, because of the shipping.

Why is shipping so expensive?
Are they shipping from the US with UPS?
UPS will charge the buyer cross border brokerage fees.

If they are shipping from Canada, why are the shipping fees so high?

Just did a quick test, price for e8400 UPS standard shipping off newegg - $218
price for e8400 express shipping (1-2 days) from ncix - $203

I didn't look around for something that was a better deal at ncix I just chose the e8400 since its something I'd buy. Newegg costs more and gets it to you slower, I think they're gonna have to try a little harder to compete. Ncix in Canada is pretty awesome (not so much in the US).

Newegg.ca prices don't match up with other online retailers in Canada yet. DirectCanada > NCIX, its cheaper, has free shipping over 300 usually, and no provincial sales tax if you're not in BC. 8% off automatically is nice. :D

Hopefully newegg will find lower cost shipping options soon.

Doesn't NCIX own DirectCanada and a few other companies though? If you check their office locations, NCIX, DirectCanada, Best Direct, and NXSource are all in the same place. Or are all of these companies owned by an umbrella organization?

DIRECT CANADA COMPUTER INC.
Unit 186, 4611 Viking Way
Richmond, BC, V6V 2K9

NCIX
105-4620 Viking Way
Richmond, BC
V6V 2L5

They actually are in different buildings, on the same street though. I haven't heard of them being under the same ownership, though its possible. Seems like they are direct competitors though.

NCIX owns Direct Canada, Memory house I believe, and a couple of other companies.

Btw, Newegg prices fail compared to NCIX. Plus you only pay GST and not PST if you're outside of B.C! :)

This is a message I sent them and their reply.
We will find out soon if UPS will charge the buyers or not.
If they do, I am sure we will hear about it.

In addition to this issue, there is also the problem of having to ship back a part that is damaged in shipping or before to the US.

Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting Newegg.
We apologize for any inconvenience but we only ship via UPS. All orders are shipped from warehouse locations within the U.S.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please visit our FAQs page. If you still need assistance, please feel free to email me directly and I will be happy to assist you.
Thank you,
Julie Martinez

Hello, When I check an item placed in the cart, the only shipping options I see are UPS.
The cost seems to be for a shipment from the US to Canada.
Are the newegg.ca parts shipped from the US?

The reason for my question is if the parts are shipped from the US and UPS is used, UPS will charge the buyer cross-border surcharge fees before delivering the part.
At least, that is what I have been told. Would you please clarify the shipping logistics?

Thanks,

At leas it might be easier to find hard-to-find stuff.

However, I find it's hard to get everything in Canada at the best price from one single site. For example, to build my last computer, I had to order from canadacomputers.com, shoprbc, directcanada and some others.

If there are a couple of items $10 or $15 less on one site and not even available on many others, then it ends up being your only choice. Whatever, every since I got scammed on a $40 OCZ rebate from NCIX, I try everything I possibly can to avoid doing an order from their site. It was unbelievably disgusting to do everything right in sending that in only to get a message saying it was sent too late. That wasn't true at all.

Give them a chance; let's see where things end up after the dust settles.

I don't know why, but in Canada, I suspect that retailers are getting ticked at manufacturers for letting them sell stuff online. So, for example, right now you can't even find the Klipsch speakers on online sites, not even newegg.ca
That suxxor for customers in Canada.

Why couldnt they ship to canada before? They needed a whole new site even though everything is still shipped from the states?

Selling to another country may not be as easy as one may think.
This is my speculation:

- There are tax consequences, in both countries.
- There will be cases of the buyer being charged duties by their country and them trying to get refunds from the seller.
- Shipping is a whole new ball game for a company that has always shipped internally.
- There are customs forms that the seller must fill out and attach to almost every package they ship out of the country.
- The currency exchange rate can make or break the venture.

All of these need to be considered, planned for, procedures put in place without disrupting the current operation of the company.

They may want to wet their toes first (instead of diving in) to see how it is before they decide to set up a warehouse in Canada.

Edit:
- Most rebates on the US site are invalid for a customer whose address is outside the US.

And another thing, for whatever reason, some courriers charge like a brokerage fee for transporting things through the border. Most companies pay it and don't make the customer pay it. But, there was a company once that shipped me stuff in 3 seperate shipments and it was a nightmare. I mean the brokerage fee for one small box was like $40. Anyway, most of the time that never happens.

Dear Customer,

The brokerage fee is cover by Newegg. What you pay at the time of checkout, is all that you would be charged. No additional fees would apply. If an item needs to be returned, yes it would need to be sent to the U.S.

Hello,
What happens if UPS charges me cross border brokerage fees? Will newegg cover it?
If I need to return a product to newegg, will I have to ship it to the US?
Thanks,

Hello,

I have another question if you don't mind.
If Canada customs charges me duty for importing the item into Canada, will Newegg cover the cost?
Or, will there never be a duty charged no matter how large or expensive the item?

Thanks,

Gee, this may mean the $14 shipping isn't that excessive. I noticed they have something cool going on at newegg though I never bothered to notice before. They have combo deals and it tells you how much you can save. So, if you pick a particular motherboard/CPU combo that you wanted in the first place, you can save like $10 or more. It takes a lot of searching though because the lists of combo deals are pages and pages long. However, that would pay part or in some cases, all of the shipping cost in the first place.

It's too bad I couldn't wait until newegg came to Canada before building my computer but I couldn't take the stress of waiting any longer. Plus, I'm almost upset they don't have certain brands they carry on the American website like Klipsch and some others I can't remember right now.

Our dollar is worth 96.5 cents U.S. right now so I wrote an E-mail to Newegg.ca not to overcharge us more than 5-10% over what our dear friends in America are paying. I'll let you know what their reply was if I get one.:)

You make it sound like you are talking to the government about a public service.

Free market means they are free to charge what they want.
If what newegg charges is more than what other suppliers charge, you will not buy from newegg. If you reflect where a significant part of their revenue comes from, they will be forced to lower their prices.

As long as they have not opened a warehouse in Canada, they have no reason to lower their prices other than the goodness of their hearts.
How many times have you experienced that in business?

Yeah, tell us how they reply. :)

Good luck with that; most businesses take a rather longer term view of the exchange rates so they don't have to go changing prices every day/week/month, and even if they bring prices into line with the american store is entirely up to them.
