Just stuck it in my cart and had similar thoughts. It's $48 with the discount off of $60 which is what you'll end up paying a month after launch and have the added benefit of going digital.

It'll probably be cheaper than $48 in a couple months, and most importantly, bug-free (relatively)

Its not worth $60 no matter how good it is. $50 is the norm pricing of 1st class games usually when they first release. The publisher knows this. They jacked the price up $10 just so they can do so called sales. So you saved $2. Ooooh big deal. I see it as a big sales gimmick. I'm not falling for it. I'll buy it when it comes down well under $50. I may have to wait three months or so but by then any bugs will have squashed and patches applied by then anyway.

That's the mentality that limits the budget for games and is causing alternative models.

People spend perhaps over $200 for a year of wow with game + monthly fees. It's easy to spend over $60 for a 'free to play' game like World of Tanks.

Good games were $60 on release over a decade ago.

If we want great games with a one-time purchase, enough people need to be willing to spend $60 on release. The discounting is training people to not spend that however.

Yeah umm, I have no idea where you grew up, but in the suburbs of Minnesota we paid between 30 and 40 dollars for SNES games. The only exception was Final Fantasy 2 and we know that was a fluke cuz Final Fantasy 3 was back down to 40 bucks.

And you cant include inflation because the average middle income person is not making 90 grand a year. Games cost more now. Period. Its just that with Steam sales and such most of us dont notice.

$60 seems to be the norm these days. Prices for a lot of other goods have gone up in the past year as well :(

PC games really haven't increased that much in price from 20 years ago - new releases were about $35-$40 for quality games.

Would I be able to register this with STEAM I wonder..
If Skyrim were a Steamworks title (as in, the developers chose to make the game require Steam) then yes, you could register it. I'm guessing Bethesda isn't going this route though. So don't count on it.

Personally, I would rather not register any of the retail games I buy on steam. I prefer not to have to be logged on to steam to play games I buy from somewhere else.
I'm glad I can always count on "that guy" to drop into every Steam-related thread, only to reassure everyone that he doesn't like Steam and would prefer not to use it.

With the deluge of recent flops, I am waiting for the reviews before I buy anything.
Yeah, actual reviews. Not the pre-release hype common to so many gaming sites and magazines.

BUT BUT IT HAS OPEN WORLD AND DRAGONS AND EXPLORING AND STUFF IT'S GONNA BE AWESOME DUDE

I was too young to ever go out and buy brand new SNES games, but I remember quite clearly paying $60 or even $70 for new release N64 titles. I think the $70 was a fluke because the lady forgot my $10 down on pre-order but still :p
