and so it starts

Yeah, so will the Intel/AMD flamethrowers around various tech forums tomorrow morning. It's gonna be annoying to wade through them.

How long before AMD drops their prices any Ideas? Also does anyone know if AMD has anything up their sleeves in the next couple of days like a 3.8 or 4.0 Ghz Phenom 2??? That core I5 750 is a hella of a good deal.

Lol, definitely not the next couple of days. Last I heard, they have things like a 125w Phenom II 965, a new Phenom II stepping, a bunch of Athlon II X3s and X4s, including 45w ones, and a Thuban X6. Their next "big strike" could be the Thuban X6, but more realistically, it's Bulldozer in 2011.

Still havent even finished building the system in my sig, and it over 2 years old but still brand new as most of the components are still wrapped. I am soooo behind.

No way to tell for sure, but 1156 seems to be the strongest candidate at this time. 1366 will likely become the home for the extreme, $500+ CPUs.

At least I got my i7 920 for $200 at Microcenter...I don't feel TOO stupid :p

Anandtech's review notes that 32 nm won't be available for a year or so: "Lynnfield early adopters need not worry, 32nm quad-core processors won't be out for at least a year." http://www.anandtech.com/cpuch...howdoc.aspx?i=3634&p=3 You and I both know that if you can hold out, you'll likely eventually be better off. But you can play that game forever, sadly.

Well if you don't need a quad core, you can get a dual core 32nm in around January

A year to upgrade is really short. My current system is nearing its 5th year and running great, given that games are no long maxed out but now to medium. My next build has to last just as long.

I hear ya. I still have a Q6600 and DFI X48 T2R mobo in the box. I built one Q6600 rig with those parts, intended to build two, and haven't gotten around to it. Then I went and bought two Q9400s, and two Gigabyte X48-DS5 boards. Need to buy some more DDR2 4GB RAM kits though, only have three of those left, and two were intended for that second Q6600 build.
