That would presumably be known as a mistake :) All under 200 elsewhere and mostly a bit under that.

The 960 was never going to get passive cooling - even the 750ti took a while to get that. It is only one 6 pin connector though, wonder how much competition there is that does that?

In Romania its like 10 dollars cheaper than a r9 290.

[redacted]

The G1 from Gygabyte is more expensive than some 290's.

Profanity isn't allowed in the technical forums.

I read the Guru3D G1 review, max overclock boosting nearly to 1.6Ghz just touches 79fps@1200p,that is what a stock 285 does in Bioshock Infinite......what the hell?

Actually mostly semi passive it seems - off at idle pretty common. The Palit one I can see specific claims for says it waits until it hits 60 degrees or a 60W power draw before turning them on, so it'll be passive quite a bit. Very quiet fans indeed even when running too it seems.

All this stuff (+ minimal PSU requirement) will sell to a fair number of people, even if some here seem to think they'd be crazy :)

If I was going from fresh I might very well get one on those grounds, but my 750ti obviously does very quiet indeed too.

Premium products are better products.

Define premium. Bonus points if any of it is objective

"Premium" = argument of last resort when it's worse in all objectively measurable qualities

Sigh. So it merely 'Replaces' the 760 and offers no performance gains other than being $50 cheaper and having a lower TDP. What a shame.

I would say it might be popular with OEM system builders but they already have the 750.

Damn shame these only have 2gb,sli reviews really show this thing coming within a hair of a 980.Price for 2 cheap 960s come about a good $140 cheaper then the cheapest 980.

Now i know why it just had to come with 2gb,people would be going sli on this thing and abandoning the 980 surely.

Power consumption in sli is obviously horrible compared a single 980,but from a performance point of view it could almost work but that 2gb......

Seriously, this is a slap in the face. $200?? Man, they must be catering to the imbeciles because they sure as hell know that anyone with half a brain knows thats a rip off.

Why do people get so wrapped up by "suggested" retail price? The market will dictate the pricing. Just because it was released at $200.- does not mean it will stay there.

The 760's released at a slightly high msrp but several had rebates right out of the gate. It wasn't until all of them got snapped up within hours of hitting the shelves that prices went up.

I don't see this card flying off the shelves. It will get price adjusted accordingly.

280x is twenty-ish dollars more and its a better product.

Why would anyone buy a GTX 960 over an R9 280x?

bioshock-infinite-100563780-orig.png

The 280x just hammers the 960 in Bioshock Infinite, which is about the most Nvidia biased game to come out in a while. Worse than a 760 in this benchmark, oh my God this is a horrible card.

Wow. That card gets 14 more FPS for only $50 more! I can't believe I can get better performance for more money.

Premium products come with premium pricing - something that has a 'premium' price is a premium product. Simple logic. If its expensive, its good.

You do realize Bioshock Infinite is part of AMD's Gaming Evolved program, right? If it is one of the most Nvidia-biased games to come out in a while, as you claim, AMD should REALLY work on their developer relations...

Looking at other Bioshock Infinite benchmarks, it leans towards the AMD side. Not sure where you came up with Nvidia-biased...

The pricing for this card is just sad, you could have bought a new 7950 over a year ago for less than than this.

Also, 960 takes not much less power than 7870:
power_average.gif

And is not much faster than 3 year old midrange card.

AMD doesn't order developers to cripple performance on one brand's graohics cards because of partnership program. Go trolling somewhere else.

I know, I always found it strange than an AMD game benches so much better on equivalent Nvidia cards.

970 hammers 290x

760 beats 280

670/770 beats 280x

Ouuhh yeah... a nvidia biased game that is a Gaming evolved title:

http://www.amd.com/en-us/markets/game/featured/all-games/bioshock-infinite#

You know, that thing of "gaming evolved" isn't related to nvidia at all. It's a AMD's thing.

If you go to pick cherries, I can do it too:

http://tpucdn.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_960_Gaming/images/civbe_1920_1080.gif

Ouch, what is happening, man, you see that? The GTX 960 obliterates 280X (the card that is more expensive) with another Gaming evolved game.

http://tpucdn.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_960_Gaming/images/dai_1920_1080.gif

Ouhouuhhooouuuhh... a cheaper card (-50$) is almost equal with performance, and yes!!!, another AMD's gaming evolved game.

Another GE game, another case of the expensive 280x with the same performance:

http://tpucdn.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_960_Gaming/images/grid2_1920_1080.gif

So, don't think that you can manipulate the reality with selective picks, the reality is this:

http://tpucdn.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_960_Gaming/images/perfrel_1920.gif

The 280X is better but not much better than GTX 960, but is more expensive than GTX 960, too. The 285 is the most similar card in price and performance, a little more expensive (a much more if you compare the MSRPs of both cards), the 280 is worse and cheaper.

Welcome to the reality. It isn't the main gpu builder the one that must take the effort of competitive prices, is its antagonist, AMD. And if AMD doesn't adjust prices... Why nvidia would do it?

Nvidia improves the relation performance/price ratio with the GTX 960, don't lie about the objective reality.
