And it's still only 128 bit, 2 GB VRAM. You can get better cards for than that for 20 dollars less, too.

Nice. The new 460.
Launch price VS old stock is never comparable. These will go on sale and get game bundles just like all cards.
They should o/c up to 1600mhz like the big brothers. There is a EVGA model with boost to 1342.

and why isn't it?

iirc every time a card is launched it is ALWAYS compared to older stock.

I can't believe they actually had the audacity to price this garbage $200. I thought they would possibly lower the price to at least $170 so its at least mildly decent, but no, they are just a scourge on gaming.

$200 dollars for a card slower than the 3 year old 280x which sells at $220-230 and of course the 290 which sells for $250-270.

Of course it trades blows with the 280 which costs $180.

Amazing over one year wait after the GTX 760 to have the same freaking card at higher clocks and same price hit us. This is literally the GTX 760TI, little bit higher performance at the same price.

So it performs inbetween two cards that are $20 less and $20 more? Is the bashing because Nvidia isn't pushing the price/performance envelope?

This card is a joke. Next gen 950 ti, doesn't have anything other than efficiency but plenty of drawbacks with 2 GB on a 2015 card.

They get to milk the mid range out again.

Eh... Gigabyte R9 290 was $225 yesterday after rebates and VisaCheckOut. If you do not need a card right now, I'd suggest waiting for another deal like that, vastly superior card to this...

Define "better"...

Premium products are better products.

Premium products don't put the same amount of VRAM from 2012.... Even in today's most recent games the 7970 is now noticeably faster than the 680 which used to beat it. Also, the latest games like DAI already use >2gb of ram at 1080p tells me who long this card will stay relevant vs it's 3gb peers.

This shouldn't have been difficult to understand:

Notice how far behind the reference 960 is behind the reference 280. Even the custom cards are barely ahead. A custom 280 beats this card and does it for 20 dollars less, plus a higher amount of VRAM and with 384-bit.

And that card is several years old.

Flop.

At least it's not $250. That would have been hilarious.

They sell them for 275+ euros where I live!

Also note that the basic salary here, is 500 euros, or less.

The r9 280 uses twice as much power as the reference GTX960.

BTW: GM206 supports full HEVC decoding:
However as of GM206 NVIDIA’s fixed function HEVC decoder has been completed and rolled into this GPU, making this the first discrete GPU with full HEVC decoding support. This will make the GTX 960 an especially tantalizing option for HTPC usage, but we’ll get deeper into that in the future.

Guys, Let's take it easy. I understand some of you will have criticism but please don't do it to bait others and completely derail the discussion. Let's keep this one civil please!

For 960 to have been truly impressive, it would have had a completely passive cooling.

But that wouldn't have been possible because you should never take TDP specs at face value:

power-gaming-FIXED_w_600.png

Notice that the 280 is at 210 at full load, while the official TDP is at 250. And now compare the 970/980 TDPs at full load with their official TDPs.

The cards are closer than advertised, and the 960 should damn be more power efficient considering that it is competing with technology that is literally several years old.

It's a flop as it is, but it would have been a fiasco if it couldn't even have been more efficient.
