I was willing to pay 399 and wait a couple days but evga is backordered so I paniced thinking there would be no way to get this card before i left then I got an e-mail saying this was instock so I got it. Never again shall i pay this much for vid card but i will today because i have lots of money and for once want to buy a really high end card. To go with my new high end system.

well done, when you think about it does $50 more really matter to get such a high end card ? of course not, and I'm sure you'll make the same decision in the future, you did the right thing.

BTW, newsflash: your system is not high end, it's just mid-range (and that is generous according to most accepted standards as used by pc-gamer magazine and others). But your video card is high end for sure, so you will have pretty good performance anyways.

go there now i just got mine its 429 with tax but its instock.

I sure hope, whoever pays $400 for a video card, also will have a good high-grade $400-500 CRT .24dp aperture-grille monitor to go with it. And no I'm not talking about the cheap $200 19" monitors you can get in retail stores.

I like my 19inch a90f+

My friend has a G520 and personally, I dont need anything that big.

Dynamics of videocard vs games are different now. Before ppl were hunting for games that maxed out the video card performance. I know i was. Anybody remember crapfests like Giants Kabuto, Black n White?
I played those pathetic things cuz at the time, they stressed my 249 gf4 card the most and had the prettiest eye candy.
U basically didnt need the better cards, it was hw chasing software.

Now its cutting edge games demanding bigger n bigger guns. I get playable 1024x768 res on doom3 with a 9700pro.. I havent played in that res since 2000 i think.

As more more games license doom3 engine, i think 6800/x800 will be a necessity. Then again u can just wait till then and have the prices drop on the cards like a sane human being.
But wheres the fun in that?
K
oh forgot it was a hot deals forum. what nobody mentioned is that yesterday zip zoom had the golden sample gainward card for 425 shipped, i think that was the hottest deal on these gt cards. sold out now tho.

You are all a bunch of spoilt rich brats.
"I will NEVER PAY more than $250 for a video card"!

My god. I would have to say that statement is atrocious. I make a 6-figure salary and have a reasonably luxurious life-style and wouldn't consider burning $400-500 on a frgn video card. I have been happy with my 64mb AGP card that I paid piddly widdly after a MIR.

But then, hey, you guys are the pillars of American economy. Long live Visa and Master!

Then don't pay it. There are rules here about thread crapping you know.

I don't think that's thread crapping. He's just saying he wouldn't pay that high of a cost for a card. He wasn't bashing the poster. The only reason it's on here is because they are hard to find, so I guess it's debatable whether it even is a 'hot deal.'. however, I'm sure that a lot of people appreciate the heads up.

maybe they should make a rule about crapping on the thread crappers (or playing mod).. I guess they do, it's called being off topic.... which would make me off topic about crapping on the thread crappers.. which would then.. forget it

As far as in stock is concerned, I saw someone walking around with one at MicroCenter in MN a couple hours ago. I have no idea what they're charging or if there are any left. Are they really still that scarce in stores?

Not only is that thing not a gamer, it also knows nothing about video cards, it doesn't even seem to know what video it has. I guess you just want something to connect the monitor to, right ? then just buy a motherboard with integrated video frrom intel extreme, i'm sure you'll be more than happy with that, and it will save you even more.

Better yet, I'll watch you "thing" play Doom3 with your dad's money and save even on that intel extreme.
