yep, right now it's about ~ same price as 1950 pro, equal or better performance + hdcp/dx10 support. Yeah, I wonder what ati will have for midrange, as well.

I don't think ATi will have problems spanking the 8600's, I'm just hoping I can get a ATi dx10 card with 256mb of 256 bit gddr3 and 64 or more stream processors. That would easily spank the 8600's. But I'd be willing to sacrifice a bit of performance to save money, as I'm on a pretty restricted budget :(

You should still be able to return it with 15% restocking fee.

Why would MSI put a two slot cooler on that card? Do you really think it will help with overclocking?

You do speak the truth. Although the NVidia's 9600s will be out by then....;)

It might. It's already overclocked a good bit from stock. I have no problem using a 2 slot cooler, I just can't afford a 8800... yet... Maybe once ATi's lineup is out, I could pick up a 8800gts 320 for around 200

ATi is going to pretty much sell only AGP cards till they have full availability of DX10 cards.

I was considering an 8600 GTS for a build I'm doing for a buddy but for $50 less I can buy an x1950pro that performs as well or better than it. I don't think DX10 is worth it for less performance and $50 extra.

@ Newegg, just type 8600GT in the search engine...It will bring up both the GT's and the GTS's.

They are a disappointment though.

well, NewEgg generally isn't the place to go for good deals on new products. Of course if they want to turn that perception around they could start with the Intel releases next week. Let's see the E4300 hit $118, and the E4400 hit $138. The E6320 at $169 and E6420 at $189. Then we'll consider NewEgg for new product purchases. Keep the prices high and we'll go elsewhere to folks who want to make a decent deal to get some business. Or you could just keep shunning the enthusiasts and make your profits ripping off those who don't know any better.

Yeah Nvidia really dropped the ball with these cards. I can understand reducing costs to maximize profits but these are.......kinda slow.

7600GT was very close in performance (faster than) to 6800 Ultra..isn't that what we're seeing with 8800GT(S)?

I don't think the X1950 pro's are selling for $139. From what I have seen they sell for about $20 less. The GTS beats the X1950 in many newer benchmarks, has better image quality, supports DirectX 10 and Pure Video HD.

Why dont you spend $20 more AR and get an 8800GTS 320mb?

Well ATi has the AVIVO, which is Ati's version of PureVideo, and it already comes in driver.

But yeah, lack of DX10 is another story.

Expect X1950Pro prices to fall further.

You can leave out the kinda.

Fine NV...clock both the GT & the GTS at 675/2000 but for heaven's sake, give the GTS 256-bit.

That's what NVIDIA should have done.

I would have rather they increased it to a minimum of 48 Shader Processors, at the cards intended resolutions of 10x7 and 12x10 the memroy bandwidth is not usually the limiting factor.

Yep. Nvidia seems to content to leave a huge performance disparity between high end and the middle, almost like the X1600 series vs the x1800/1900 series. Let's hope, for ATI's and competitions sake, that we can see a Radeon in midrange that is simply ~ 25% faster than the geforce equivalent. (ala X1600 vs the 7600's).

At least that would keep it interesting. :)

Well, the 8600GTS cards are hanging out with the X1950XT in price...that's a pretty easy decision in favor of the X1950XT.

If only AMD/ATI were making the same amount of profit on that card as nvidia is making on the cheaper to make 8600 series...

Sorry, it was actually $5 less than I stated. $134.99AR

From all the benchmarks I've seen the GTS gets it's butt handed to it more often than not. Sometimes by a large margin. The image quality is only slightly better, much less of a distinction than between the 7900 and X1900 series. AVIVO was already mentioned by postmortemIA. DX10 is really the only solid advantage I see the GTS having over the X1950pro.
