Lol.

One of you new 7970 owners needs to please start a 7970 retail overclock thread with your results, if you plan to overclock, once these cards start arriving. I would really appreciate hearing clocks you get on stock volts and with extra voltage if you're going there.

MSI Afterburner is already updated for 7970 voltage control.

With the price of the HD7950's at $550
Why would anyone buy a EVGA GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 3GB for $589 thats also on newegg, i think those things are going to be collecting dust on the store shelves

I am going to order it soon..... God damn Paypal is screwing with me.

Someone apparently moved money from MY bank account into MY PayPal account.....wtf...

They are the largest supplier of of AMD cards in the world. I've also read they are AMD's supplier of R&D boards, but I can't find my links to where I read that or confirmation of.

You also have to remember (depending on your age) that Sapphire and PowerColor have been ATI/AMD vendors since the beginning of time. Before any of these other guys (ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, HIS, etc.) were even building graphics cards.

He'll be good. The 7970 is pretty civil on power use for all that fps power.
with Sandy Bridge at 4.0 it would not be too bad but no way would I run 7970 crossfire and a 930 oced to 4.0 with that power supply. it will probably be just fine at stock but i would be scared to crank the 7970s at all since that cpu is already using ton of watts.

Anybody thats ordered a Sapphire 7970, can you confirm if it is shipping out of NJ or CA? Just want to know if I need to overnight it or not.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I have not gotten shipping info... my guess is they cannot ship until tomorrow.

I am in Southern CA and I got the "will call" option during check out, indicating it may ship from CA. However, I'd think for a launch like this Newegg would definitely stock all its warehouses.

Seeing as how they can pull 305W ea @ 1278MHz, I agree. Considering they draw ~200W ea. stock though, he still has some room to play. 😀

PowerColor and XFX just went OOS. Only 15 HIS left. All of those freaking eBay gougers.

You could have something there. I know the 920/930 etc use more power than SB with big 4+ overclocks.

Ah, here is guru3d's 7970CF article, this is an i7 965 @ 3.75 with two 7970s @ stock.

[FONT=verdana, geneva]Measured power consumption for two cards in Crossfire

  1. System in IDLE = 166W
  2. System Wattage with GPU in FULL Stress = 567W
  3. Difference (GPU load) = 401W
  4. Add average IDLE wattage ~6W
  5. Subjective obtained GPU power consumption = ~ 407 Watts
Mind you that the system wattage is measured at the wall socket.

He should be okay on 750W. Too lazy to dig up what overclocking the 7970s does to power consumption atm though. 🙂

Nice, this right here is a single GPU with more power then a 5970.

Maybe, but if you had a 5970 would you bother to upgrade?

I bought a 5970 two years ago at almost the same price one of these retails at now, having two years gaming pleasure from it since then. I thought it was alot of cash for a video card at the time but seeing what's going on here I feel somewhat vindicated.

No disrespect meant from that, I hope and know y'all have fun with the new cards. I'd like to have one to play with too but not really sure it's worth it for me, even x2 for crossfirex presently. I knew I'd skip the last generation but might end up skipping this generation too, we'll have to see where it goes.

God I hate the ebay vultures... Someone has them listed for 700ea and states that they are from newegg and he will have them tomorrow...

At what etailer? As of this post, the Egg has a Sapphire, an HIS, and a Powercolor model in stock, with both XFX, the Asus and Gigabyte OOS.
