Ok Ive been out of the hardware loop for a while but recent games have caught my interest and think its the right time for me to build a new system. I would appreciate if you guys could give me your comments on this build.

So first off games I still play:
TF2
Left4Dead
Resident Evil 4
Company of Heroes

building system for:
GTA4
COD World at War
Prob try out Crysis and Far Cry 2 but not a must
RE5 (later?)
also many games I missed in the past year or two eg. Bioshock

I'll leave out the minor stuff like dvd burner etc. but here are the main specs

Asus 24" 1920x1080 LCD

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000 3.1GHz Socket AM2
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16819103272
Asus M3A78 Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813131324
Crucial 2GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820148163
EVGA 512MB 9800GTX
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814130339
Hitachi 500GB 7200rpm
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16822145215

Total cost is about $700 and Im trying to spend as little as possible. However spending a little more for a better gpu/cpu/mobo is OK. Just dont need a super high end system that will cost me an arm and a leg :)

Nice system overall. However in light of the games you want to play along with the monitor you have chosen I would make a few suggestions.

1. Go with a video card with 1GB of RAM if possible. GTA4 needs that much texture memory for the resolution you'll be running at. I'd suggest ATi over nVidia at the moment as they seem to get better bang for the buck in your price range.
2. As cheap as memory is nowadays go with 4GB at a bare minimum more if you can fit it in your budget
3. I'm not a huge fan of the Hitachi drives myself. They're not bad but performance wise they're not too great. For $20 more you can get a nice Western Digital Caviar Black Edition 640GB drive. More cache at 32mb vs 16mb and faster access & write times.
4. The processor is nice but for not much more you can get a more modern CPU. If you're an AMD fan for $30 you can get a Phenom II http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16819103648 for the same amount more you could switch to Intel and get a Core 2 Duo E7400.

Just my two cents ;).

Go with faster CPU, 4GB Ram, and a 4850. DDR2 ram is cheap and you can get a good set of 4gb for about $40 or less. For a $146.99 9800 GTX, I'd rather go for a 4850.
