Due to my wife + water + the top fan opening of my case I have to get a new motherboard and processor it seems. I'm thinking about doing the i5k with the gigabyte motherboard. I've been out of the loop on this for a while, is this a decent deal?

It's not a bad price, but you could take the RAM deal instead and get a different Z87 board for a similar price, although probably with less features.

I have the RAM already (I hope, not sure if it got wet and fried too). 16gb 1600.

For the price and the features, it is quite a good price. It is a different matter entirely if you actually use those extra features, but the difference between the Gigabyte in the promo and other Z87 boards is not too much, with the maximum being $30 if you'd rather buy the Asrock Z87 Pro3. You can compare this Gigabyte to Z87 boards cheaper than it on Newegg and determine whether saving a little extra money or buying this UD4H is the way to go.

You can ask for advice on component selection in General Hardware as well if you have further questions.
