newegg considers the base of an lcd tv to be an accessory?

oO

my first experience buying recertified from newegg is... less than ideal. I expected maybe some dead pixels, maybe some dings on the tv itself or a missing remote control, none of which would be a big deal since this tv is just to have for my bedroom (the old crt that I've had since college finally kicked the bucket).

but my recertified tv didn't come with a base. lol. the response from newegg was "we do not guarantee any accessories for recertified items"... wtf am I supposed to do with this thing, lean it against the wall and hope for the best? a remote control or instruction manual is an accessory... the base of a tv? never really seemed like one to me.

who knows if the manufacturer even sells the bases (currently waiting on a reply from them)

you can probably order a replacement form the manufacturer. Otherwise you can wall mount it like most people

which would also requiring purchasing a wall mounting kit... but I'm not super keen on drilling holes into my apartment wall, especially when I rearrange my bedroom several times/year.

Buy a stand with a built in mount.

Not all TV mounting kits require you to drill the wall. You can probably find one that uses a clamp or something, or even one that just sits on the desk like any stand. I don't know, just a thought.

all these replies are completely missing the point: that a base for a TV should not be considered an accessory.

its recertified, which means used, which probably means one of two things:

whoever sent it back didnt sent the base, because theyre a retard

whoever checked it out when it came back to newegg set the base aside and forgot to stick in back in with the item before it got put back into inventory

its not like newegg is a factory for this stuff, if you order a recertified mobo you may not get cables, a back plate, etc that would normally come with it new.

sucks, but thats what you get when you buy a refurb: a good chance at getting screwed on something.

I'd say that anything that doesn't come from the factory attached can be considered an "accessory" in regards to buying used equipment.

It's ATOT. We have missing the point down to an artform.

The fact is that regardless of the cost of the free item showing in the cart, recertified means it may still be shipped UPS.

wow, you combined 3 newegg threads into 1

You are the fucking man.

well, guess it's a moot point... I rigged it up just to see if it actually worked and discovered a not insignificant crack in the lcd itself.

gogo RMA

(gogo crappy ups shipping?)

No, but neither should a remote...yet tv's and audio equipment is often returned without them as well.

While I agree that the base unit SHOULD NOT be considered an accessory, when you buy open box units...you often do not get all the "detachable parts."

Did the listing state what was included in it? Do you have a link to the item or at least a model number? I would only buy a refurb that states what it comes with and has a decent warranty with it. I was considering a Vizio refurb recently. Vizio refurbishes them itself, includes all original accessories, and gives a 90-day warranty that guarantees 0 dead or bright pixels. I've heard from many people who've bought them that the TVs look brand new.

NewEgg never provides a list of included accessories, only a warning that reconditioned or open-box items have a shorter RMA period, allow RMA replacement only (no refunds), and may not include any accessories.

I got a reconditioned Vizio 32" LCD TV from another place and it looked great. Unfortunately, the first one had a problem that cropped up within a few minutes, but they gave me an advance return with a prepaid return shipping label, so it was super easy to get a replacement and didn't cost me anything. So far it's been a great TV - I can't even tell it's a refurb.

I don't really feel like reading all of the replies, but I'm sure most will blame you and not newegg!

Newegg's an outstanding company, I will not knock them here - but I do know that their policy seems to differ agent by agent.

Use the online chat and ask for the following options:
1. Return shipping plus no restocking fee so that you can send the item back
2. A credit toward future purchases (or this purchase) toward the purchase of a mount from the manufacturer
3. The stand

Say that an accessory implies that it is optional and separate from the main product (a cable, for example), but the tv is unusable without the stand, and say that there was no mention of the stand being considered an accessory in the item description.

They'll probably go with #2. Find out how much the replacement part will be first. I think that they'll do this because I had a power supply blow out on me from a PSU/case bundle. One rep told me to mail back the whole bundle because the PSU didn't have a separate SKU, and that I'd have to pay for shipping because only part of the bundle was broken. I refused because the case was fine, and gave them the option - pay for shipping for the whole damn thing, or just give me a credit toward a new PSU. They agreed to do that and credited me $25 toward the purchase of a $40 psu.
