NEWEGG.com

Advanced Search, archived threads, "newegg"

There have been several threads on the origin of The Egg of Goodness.

But since you're probably too lazy to look, I'll take pity on the n00b: it was a play on the name of dead company "EggHead" that in the early '90s had a chain of stores across the country.

To me they were the new egghead (you know, out of respect or something) cuz I found out about em after that went away in like 2000 I guess. I too would like to know the real reason too.

Didn't Amazon or someone else buy egghead?

edit:was a little slow....but I guess I was on the right track!

This I don't quite understand. Why would they want to associate themselves with egghead? It was a great site, but from what I've heard their customer service left a lot to be desired. Is this right?

Actually not to lazy, I did a Google search before posting and a "name newegg" search before I posted, however didn't go though the archives-sorry. Anyways thanks for the info. I hadn't heard of egghead before, to be honest I hadn't heard of fry's until recently.

Found this looking up egghead from an August 15, 2001 article off of cnet.

"Fry's is buying Egghead's Web site and "ongoing operations," Hartzell said, though she declined to list what assets Fry's is buying or how much the company is paying for them. Fry's is purchasing the assets before the bankruptcy filing and will go into the proceedings as a debtor in possession, Hartzell said."

**EDIT FOR THE GRAMMER POLICE**

Are they like the evil version of the Grammar Police?

YES. I caught that before I read your post, but you saved it for the world to see....I just hope Nik doesn't find it. You know this board is pickier than my ENG 101 or 102 professors. Are you all English post docs? I'm putting my post in Word now before replying for crying out loud.
