Newegg.com censors bad reviews

Bah they have been pretty biased in their site reviews. This is to promote the products they sale by deleting the majority of the negative reviews on the product. Joe comes, sees excellent reviews and buys the item. Newegg makes money. Simple as that and pretty effective too. I don't like it, but newegg doesn't want to change their ways etc. I still order from them if the deal is good or when I need it. Also the place for newbies to find one place to buy all their computer components at the same time.

As far as going downhill, how much butter could they have gotten? I'd say they were close to the top so a downward trend is not unusual. I just hope it doesn't go too far.

YEAH THIS DEAL IS HOT! I'LL TAKE 7 AS WELL!! EDIT: I'll take two sticks of butter!

Newegg is approximately 4 years old....so I'm intrigued how you would have shopped there in 1998.

I gotta tell you that with the sole exception of Amazon.com, I wouldn't trust most websites' reviews. I've become rather impressed with Amazon's honesty recently though, since they seem to have one of the few affiliate programs that doesn't mysteriously lose customer orders all the time.

Heh of course, the downside with letting any review go is that some of the items on Amazon have rather creative reviews. But this is usually on funny items and provides for a good half hour of laughter so it's alll good =P

Dont mean to bump a thread in the wrong forum (ahem..) but anyone that places too much trust in any one web site reviews (especially a merchant!)... well theres some saying about a fool and his money.

I tend to trust the star ratings on PriceGrabber, even though their reviews suck.

newegg has reviews?

wow...i looked, they do! looks like a bunch of compusa shoppers stepped up to a real vendor but are just as dumb.

So was Tiegerdirect once like newegg? Because every one seems to hate tigerdirect and when I was a noob thats where I bought my first components. 😱

I think Newegg's shipping speed is pretty good. I think their pricing is pretty good except for the "shipping game." I think their RMA service is extraordinary... except more and more products are "manufacturers warranty only." We're not talking about typical consumer products. We're talking about things like motherboards that show up DOA and the manufacturer tells you point blank that their warranty is a vendor warranty, so talk to the vendor. Newegg (the vendor) says manufacturers warranty, talk to manufacturer. Where does that get you and me - the consumers?

i also do not like neweggs new policy of having some items that you cannot return for warranty. they will be like "warrany only through manufacturer" or something like that.

on most items though they are great during the normal return policy. if you have a legitimate reason to return, just email them and 100% of the time they seem to waive restocking.

Newegg censors reviews, but they don't cheat on the ratings.
If you check the ratings along with the reviews you can glean some pretty accurate information. You figure anyone who took the time to vote probably also had something to say.

Up until about 6 months ago, Newegg was almost the only place I bought from. But they have gone downhill. Now there are lots of places that have better prices and cheaper shipping.
Once you know, it pays not to Newegg.

Hey, let's be honest. Lots of people are computer illiterate but either don't know it or don't admit to it. I've heard stories of people buying PCIe cards for a computer with an AGP slot, etc. Do you expect Newegg or any other retailer to put up reviews written by people like this?
I'm not saying that's the case here, but some of the bad reviews would have to fall in this category.

Its wrong to censor bad reviews. What is this, china?

When a bad review is posted, is the just the review removed, or is the rating removed as well?

Id have to agree with that. Even people that know what they are doing make mistakes, some will even try to pass the buck.

My only real complaint is how they deal with shipping. The speed is great but staking the shipping price for items that weigh next to nothing in the first place sucks ass.

It doesn't cost $10 to ship a freaking mouse pad and a tube of AS5.

Well, since everything goes FedEx, it does cost at least $4-something for a minimum shipment, but yes I know what you are talking about. The "stacking shipping cost" blows. Places like SVC.com are great values if you buy more than one item since they somehow figure out a "shipping per order" instead of a "shipping per item." Let's say you buy a HSF, two fans, some AS3, fancy finger guards and some cold cathodes to pimp out your rig. Shipping at SVC would be something like $7 while shipping at Newegg would be closer to $22.

This topic really interests me, because I've seen the 'love' for NewEgg in these forums over the last couple years. But there are issues with all of our deals companies that anger us (remember TD's rebates). Are AnandTechers *really* upset about this? Is it time to take consumer action and tell our beloved NewEgg how we feel? Doesn't NewEgg sponser these forums? Is there a conflict of interest somewhere?

Is it time to band together and e-riot?

yeah, i thought the "lol" and 😛 would make that clear...

anyway, know whats really amusing is the "exclusive deal"on the audigy2 zs they are offering us AT'ers for 71.00 and free shipping while you can go to chiefegg and get it for 66.99 shipped.

they're really looking after us AT'ers 😛

I use the newegg reviews slightly differently. I take the number of reviews as a proxy for the amount of product sold. So, when I was researching LCDs, I went to newegg and got a sense for the most popular products. Taking that information to enthusiast sites and forums like anandtech, I could get more objective (from expert reviews) and subjective (from the forums) comments about the products. it helped me hone down which products to seriously consider.
