Newegg Breached again - August 14th and September 18th

Wow, I normally use Paypal with Newegg and Ebay and others, but I was contemplating using my Debit Card with Newegg today, because their pre-order for the 200GE APU only was accepting CC#, no Bitcoin, no Paypal. I passed, thank God.

got the email, too. First time I've ordered from Newegg in about 10 years, and I placed 3 or 4 separate orders over the last two weeks. 😡

this probably should be cross posted and stickied in some of the hardware forums like CPU and motherboards where people discuss buying things from newegg.

Looks like I'm in the clear. Thank god, I just got a new CC because of some breach, and I hate memorizing new CC numbers.

People still shop at Newegg? 😵

I don’t think I’ve ordered anything from the, in 3-4 years...and since they were bought out by a Chinese company, I don’t see that changing.

There needs to be more laws for this and companies need to be held accountable. It's ridiculous. When something like this happens they should be forced to pay for every single customer to have credit protection services for life. The company should also not be allowed to be affiliated in any way with said service. Ex: Equifax. They actually provide that service, so they actually MADE money from their hack. It's BS.

They occasionally have things on sale that I need. That's about it.

When it comes to buying cases newegg is pretty much the only game in town as they're the only ones that put cases on sale and do not charge shipping. I'm hoping for a windowless Fractal Design R6 and Fractal Design C sale before the end of the year.

Yeah, I only buy when there's a sale. I think there was a m.2 evo 860 1tb for 167 a few days ago.. I was going to jump on it till I saw.. but this will happen to everyone so..

What sucks is my cc is linked to wireless payment, fios, ezpass, geico etc.. takes time to go and change all that..

I used to get all rig components from there but for a while now I only shop there rarely, when there's a good deal on a particular item that I'm looking for (which isn't very often since I only upgrade every 3-4 years about). Thankfully my last order was in 2017. LMAO, I looked at my oldest order and it was in 2004, for a $43 Netgear router. I still use it and it works great. I am wired into it for my desktop and I think TV, and use Wi-fi on phone and tablets (TV worked fine on Wi-fi too). I lol at some of the router prices I see in stores... people just wasting their money. Anyway.

2018 called. It's time to upgrade your wireless 802.11b router and USB1.0 802.11b NIC. LOL. How do you live with yourself? Don't you have any friends that come over, and want to use your wifi? Routers today support "Guest networks", and "WPA2-PSK/AES". You're lucky your router is so slow, because otherwise, the whole neighborhood probably hacked your password and is on it.

Edit: You don't have to spend a lot. $50 or $60 gets you an Asus AC66U / AC1750 refurb unit, which is plenty modern, and will probably run for 5-10 more years.

(But you'll have to upgrade again, or at least firmware, when WPA3 arrives.)

I agree with you on one thing, "New" routers, the all-singing, all-dancing, ones, with 2.4/5.0/60Ghz bands and quad-core processors for $500, probably are too much for most people.

But a lot of cable internet customers, may still be using a "Legacy" WRT54G or something, and they may not even be able to use the full speed of their cable internet, especially if your ISP has boosted speeds a few times.

But hey, be a cheapskate if you want. I'm sure that Pentium 4 you're still rocking is doing you fine as well. LOL. /s

I only use newegg business for my job. I either go to microcenter in NY or order from amazon.

How come? I haven't bought anything since my ryzen rig last year but they were the cheapest then. I spent like $1600 all together on the new rig.

I agree, I always find Newegg to be cheaper on most parts. And they have a larger selection of components than anywhere else.

For a single part I may use Amazon, if I can wait two weeks for it to be delivered...

We got hit hard a couple of years ago with newegg. 10k in obvious bogus user. Called them immediately and they were useless. Tried to make us pay.

Yeah, compared to Amazon, only Newegg had the board that I was looking for (470x Taichi), case (fractal design C something or other), and the $500 Vega 64 nitro. I also got an EVGA G3 750W gold PSU for $60 (After $20 rebate + $80 sale)

Hmm thanks. I'll still shop there but just deleted my saved payment info. I'll use paypal next time.

I just never have had a need to get a new one. This one has always worked fine for me. Playing games (FPS, MMO, etc), streaming video, downloading, etc is all fast and I'm getting the speeds I should be getting by my ISP. Granted that's mostly done wired, but for wi-fi (my phone, when my parents are over and using their laptop/tablets, when I'm using a tablet) no one has ever complained about slow speeds or anything negative happening. And no one is getting into the router, it's protected well enough by WPA2 and a strong password. Shrug.

Well, if you're getting full speeds from your ISP, and it's not needing reboots regularly, and it's got WPA2, I guess that's the most that you could ask of any router. Sorry. My comments were basically snarky, I figured you were still running a WRT54G or something. Although, if you're on DSL, that's probably enough.

I used to use a WRT54G and a Motorola WGR850 or whatever, in a WDS pair, when I was on DSL. They worked really well.

These days, though, a WRT54G is limited to like 40-50Mbit/sec WAN-to-LAN, so it wouldn't do for me.

My friend used to use a Netgear WNR2000v2 router, those were solid routers back in the day too. 10/100 WAN/LAN ports, could route WAN-to-LAN at around 94-95Mbit/sec, N300 (draft) wifi, good enough for tablets and printers.
