Newcastle 5 liter mini kegs

QueBert

Lifer
I've seen a few brands of beer in the past in these 5 liter kegs. I like Hienikens so that one was good, saw a few others for beers I don't drink so I passed them up. I don't keep up on this king of shit, so maybe it's old news. But I saw a Newcastle one a few days ago. Bought it, and it was 5 liters of deliciousness. I'm not a beer snob so I can drink Newcastle and still love it. Cost $20, not too bad. I know some company makes a mini Keg-a-Rator for these size ones. I need to find it so I can always have cold Newcastle on tap on my computer desk.

Nice. I'm not a huge fan of Newcastle, but my brother is. I'll have to search for this and surprise him one day.

Edit: What store did you pick this up at? I'm in Chicago and looking on Binny's site now, but they don't seem to have it 🙁

I'm pretty sure I saw them at the one in Hyde Park on Friday when I went to pick up some Goose Island.

Is this a better deal per ounce than cans or bottles? Last time I did the math on a Heineken Mini-Keg and Heineken bottles, the bottles were the better deal.

a local liquor store, I'm sure if they're not nation wide they will be soon. I see the Heineken ones everywhere. I'm looking for a mini fridge to order, Krups makes one called the Beertender, but it has a Heinkens logo on it. Looks pretty slick though. $200 is a bit pricey, plus you gotta buy replacement hoses for every new keg.

linky to Beertender

Doubtful, the kegs are the same price as the Heineken ones, and the bottles are about the same, at least out here. I think it's a much worse deal, but you have the cool and compact factors. If you don't care about that a 12 pack is a much better deal. I want a mini keg in a mini fridge always on tap and at a constant 38 degrees.

newcastle is ok, nothing special, really.

i went tailgating and we bought a mini keg of widmer hefe once, that wasnt a bad call at all.

mmmm for german beer

Mini-kegs are more expensive than the bottles. I bought a Heineken mini-keg a few years back and personally the beer tasted worse than in bottles. Furthermore, a mini-keg holds about 14 beers, so unless you happen to only buy (overpriced) 12 packs at 15 dollars or more, buying bottles is much cheaper.
