Doom 3, although slower then half life 2, can be run at very good looking settings as well. A 9600 Pro with the newest omega drivers, and a few tweaks can run doom 3 at 1024X768 at ultra settings at a good 30fps, and much faster at medium settings. Get a 9600 pro and try it out for yourself if you dont believe me.

Don't listen to this guy, you will regret it.

Those "60 fps" benches are at 10X7, no AA/AF. Do you know how huge your jaggies will be at 10X7? The straight lines will look like staircases.

As for Doom3, I'd say it's totally unplayable on a 9600 anything.

I can second that. Before I upgraded to a 6800GT, I had a 9600 Pro. Doom 3 at 640x480 was barely playable. My laptop still has a 9600 Pro Mobile, running the Omega 4.10s, Doom3 is virtually unplayable.

Doom 3 really needs a Geforce 6x00 series card.

Still a 9600XT for 70 bucks, is a good deal. No other cards in the sub 100 dollar range will rival that.

This thing is killing me. Getting a right graphics card is soo HARD!!! I think im pretty much set on a Radeon, but after most of yu guys are saying the 9600 is outdated and for a few extra bucks, yu can get a much better card. BTW: is this a good card and a good deal, HL2 is included, look at the price AFTER rebate Link

Yes, that's an excellent deal methinks. I considered getting that card bundle, but decided against it, since my 9600XT came with HL2 and I don't have the cash for a new GPU.

Whoever is saying the 9600 pro/XT arent good for half life 2 are complete morons. The 9600XT runs half life 2 at 1024X768 at max settings at over 60 fps. It is faster then any geforce fx in dx9 mode, and is still faster then any geforce fx if put in dx8 mode as well. The 9600s have some life in them still.

So you definetly recommend HL2 and maybe DOOM III w/ the XT/PRO?

I have the 9600XT and if you can get it with HL2, then it's a great deal. I play HL2 at medium settings with relatively high fps, although the loading times are a pain in the ass. It also lags a lot in the beginning, but settles down quite nicely. I also have Doom 3 and it works fine in 1024 X 768 medium settings. It's on the choppy side, but looks nice enough for me. Hopefully you haven't bought that game, it was a waste.
