Newbie Win2000 Networking question

I have Windows 2000 Pro SP2 running on a machine at home with a cable modem (fixed IP address). I typically login as 'administrator' to my home machine, and as a 'user' at work.

I work for a large company with a Windows 2000 network as well. Is there anyway I can access my machine at home? I'd like to get access to the files on my home machine.

In considered installing a terminal services client on my home machine, but would prefer to access its files directly?? Any ideas on how to do this?

Have Timbuktu, PCAnywhere, or any similar programs installed on both machines. WinXP i believe might have somthing similar, though it's not released yet. You can also setup an FTP Server from home. This is all dependent on whether your company has any type of firewalls in place that might prevent you from accessing outside the corporate intranet.

Be sure you know the security risks of leaving your computer on with something like FTP/pcAnywhere etc. running esp on an administrator account.

I'm considering installing an FTP host onto my home machine.

Any suggestions on how to minimize security risks? Perhaps I'll login at home as a 'user' instead of 'administrator' and ftp to get the files I typically need?

I'm too cheap to buy a firewall/router, are there any software methods to protect my machine from hacks?

Go to downloads.com and search for a ftp server. They have one that will let you setup and allow privaledges for certain users and of course passwords.

But the best program I can think of is VNC. Also can be found at downloads.com. This works like PC anywhere but much faster. You can configure with a password. When you log into it its just like as if you were in front of your PC.
