Newbie to UT

I just got UT. Never played it before. Where can I find good stuff for it on the net? Like patches to update it. ALso is there somewhere I can play multiplayer online? I'm not big into games so I would prefer going against someone that is also relatively new. IOW I don't want to join some deathamtch with a bunch of experts and die every 10 seconds.
Is it really worth trying to play online with only a 56K modem?

File Planet is a good place to start. You will find all the latest patches, mods and Bonus packs etc.

The best way to learn is to jump right into a full on game. A couple of the best online server applications is either .GameSpy or GameSpy Arcade. And lastly, UT and 56k modems do not really go together. The net code in UT is not as good as the quake series of games. You will however get the odd good game, if ya extremely lucky....

you can also use the in-game Internet server option... use the "Find Internet Games" from the multiplayer menu. you can find different kinds of games: Deathmatch, Team DM, Domination, Capture the Flag, Assault... etc. UT and 56k modem is pretty tough. I had a 24k connection, and that totally sucked. I had awful lag... but if you get used to lag, you'll be pretty good if you get broadband. Lag compensation is a good skill to acquire...

also, practice makes perfect. Try playing alot of practice games against the bots and set the level of the bots higher and higher and you get better.

The bots are pretty good in UT. Theyre not the normal "perfect aim" bots you get while playing quake.

yeah.. UT bots dont shoot before you pop outta corner like those q3 nightmare bots :|
