where to get space for an ftp server....(free if possible)

i have my cox (10mb) account working and i'd like to have more space for sharing good files with other people😉

You can run an FTP on your system. SERV-U is probably the easiest to setup and run with limited knowledge. Free 30-day trial, I think, then you have to pay. WarFTP is a free one (I think that is the name) but it can be tricky to set up.

Otherwise, most web hosting plans have FTP available. You'll kill your bandwidth quick if you are planning to trade movies and so forth.

If your school is running a firewall they might have blocked the incoming FTP ports... this will likely prevent you from running your own server...

i dun think they run one, the told us to turn on XP's firewall because of the NT authority** then connect to their network

If it's a large school, most likely they do.

That will help handle internal threats, but not external or traffic management.

Wrong forum.

Bulletproof looks like you can do that. Also, many of the ones at Two Cows do the same. But there they offer mostly limited time use demo software.
