in your opinion, what are the best guides out there to learn about these topics? its only for a personal webpage that will have little traffic, and a personal file server so i can get files at home from work.

i prefer running win2k, win2k adv server, or win xp; my office computer at the university will be running it (so ill be using it as a workstation as well). however if you think another program would be better, please suggest; my friends are saying appache, but it seemed rather tideous for the simple things i want to do.

edit: will be running on a t1

thanks for your help.

system running:
tbird 1400
asus a7m266
512 pc 2100 ddr
3com nic
should be all thats relevant.

How does everybody get copies of Windows 2000 Server and Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Isn't that a lot of money to spend?

Anyone can get a 120-day evaluation copy of Advanced Server from Microsoft for $9.95. Lots of people here re-format more often than every 120 days, so the expiration is no biggie. There are also supposedly other things you can do to "extend" the expiration date.

There are also a lot of developer deals and reseller deals, like $15,000 work of software and licenses for $299, all for internal, not for resale usage though.
