I was wondering if anyone knows why my 3.5" floppy drive will all of a sudden just start reading like there is a disk in it when there isn't. It does it all the time whether i'm online or offline or even if no one is at the computer. Maybe this is a stupid question or i'm a complete moron for asking but if anyone knows i would really appreciate the help.

I had seen this before on one of my friends system. Some program he had running on startup was the cause. I can't remember exactly what app that was running in memory doing it, sorry:(

what I would do is run 'MSCONFIG' then goto startup and uncheck anything that isn't neccessary
like realplayer, ICQ, MS office stuff, etc (i know these apps aren't causing it, just an example)

wish I could be of more help, but for now I can't remember

click on 'Start'
then click 'Run'
type in 'MSCONFIG'
then click 'OK'
then goto the 'STARTUP' Tab on the top

**DISCLAIMER**
BE CAREFUL on what you uncheck
if its something you're not sure about I wouldn't screw with it

Hit Control, Alternate and Delete buttons at same time. That will show you the apps that are running. Post the list here and maybe someone will see something that is calling for a floppy read.

a possible cause could be anti-virus programs that might be scanning in the background
