ok... just got my tbird 1.4, swiftech, and artic silver 2, today. one of the pins on the cpu had a bent, so i bent it back to original shape(is this ok?). also, it has cushion on four corners of the top side, do i remove before i place the hsf. how much artic silver to apply?

i'll try to answer in order:
bent pin - in general this is not a god thing but you will not know if it caused a problem until you actually try the cpu
pads on the corners - they are supposed to be there, do not remove them. they are there to keep the heatsink from crushing the cpu core and it keeps the heatsink level, without tilting to a side/corner
arctic silver application - first, since you are using arctic silver (and it is good stuff), you must completely remove the pink pad (the gum like stuff) on the bottom of your heatsink (it is possible it didn't come with that pad, but it probably did). basically, you want to apply a very thin, even layer on the cpu core. if you apply it too thick it will act as an insulator (that's bad). here are the instructions from arctic silver themselves...

it's hard to say if you should return it. in general, online returns can be annoying...but it might be worth it. will they take back a defective cpu? what is the warranty period for such an item (i.e. will you have your case in time)? does the pin seem mangled or loose or did you just "gently" straighten it? hey, if you want to send it to me i'll test it for you...i wouldn't mind playing with a 1.4ghz t-bird, i'll let you know how it overclocks;)

ive had bent pins happen quite a few times but it always worked fine once i bent them back, so i wouldnt return it unless it doesnt work.
