Ok, i know i should know this, but is there a way to change the multiplier on the CPU without flipping the dip switches? And if i do have to change the dip switches, will i still be able to use the bios to change the FSB speed?
Also, would i qualify for being extremely stupid if i just bought a PAL 6035? it seems that all of a sudden everything is beating the crap out of it in the benchmarks... when i ordered it, i had seen it being among the best...

Get the latest bios. 1005 and above enables tweaking multiplier in the bios. You need a board which is rev1.04 and above though. The alpha is a good HSF. Don't worry too much about it. :)

PAL6035 might be a little more expensive than some of the other heatsinks that get the job done well, like some of the Taisols and the GlobalWin FOP32-1, but you'll know it's quality when you get it. Don't worry about your heatsink, it's a good one.

Unless Asus has changed something, the A7V's dipswitches are the only way to adjust the multiplier setting, but you will be able to adjust FSB settings in the BIOS. edit: from what pillage is saying, sounds like they DID change something. :) My board is rev. 1.02 and BIOS is 1003.

Dang! my board is 1.02. to change the mult via the dipswitches, do i have to turn off "jumper free" mode?

Yes, turn off 'jumper free' mode, then use the dipswitches. Bios rev 1004c is a good one for board rev 1.02 . The 'jumper free' doesn't work right on rev 1.02 with any bios rev that I've tried. Also put your soundblaster card in PCI slot 3, and reserve IRQ 5 for legacy in the bios. This will save you lots of problems.

hi all, today I successfully replace my HSF with FOP32-1. for overclocking, I simply change the DSFID switches from 8.0 to 9.0... what's the deal of jumper-free? I have A7V version 1.02 and using 1005c.
