newbie problem....

I was thinking if there are and projects, that I can use in the same time on one proccesor unit. I mean, to run two or more clients, and all working fast...

I've had success running Distributed Folding and Folding@Home on the same machine.

the F@H client lets you specify what percentage of your machines' idle cycles to use. I set it to 50% and off they go!

(I'm pretty sure there are several other clients that also let you make this kind of setting. This is just the one I have tried)

Waht else ??
Please, search for it, it is important for me...

And next question: what about clients, taht could be run on PII 500 MHz, and have less then 1.44 Mb to download (so i could bring them to my school on one floppy disc) ?!

And I search for agent, that can be run as service under Win 98 - i know it is possible, but you msut have special program. But the problem is, that I forgot what the program was...
And if I left normaly (not hidden) any program at school, i have about 75% chances, that it will be turned of in 2 minutes at next lesson... If I could hide these programs (that they won't be on tray), noone will bother if any are running or not... And I will be able to use a free processor power...
Comp at school is working about 4-6 hours a day for a 5 days at week, which gives about 20-30 hours a week of proccessing...

Service under Win98? .... I have no idea.

If you will forgive me for stating the obvious...... It is NOT a good idea to run ANY DC client on someone elses' hardware without permission.

Not without perrmission. It will be running with my permission, but my friends always turn off, what he could, and what he see in system tray....
But we all aprove these agents...

(re: permission) Good to hear that 😎

Unfortunately, as much as I love pimping out Distributed Folding as a great client, I am afraid it would only hobble along on a PII 500, plus it likes lots of RAM (25MB min.)

F@H would be a good choice in terms of the machine you have available (it doesn't use much RAM), but I don't know how to get it off the desktop (taskbar)

So, now I am stuck because I don't know how to run something as a service in Windows98.

I would recommend FireDaemon to run an app. as a service, but if I remember correctly, it is only for Windows NT/2K/XP.

I'll have to defer to some of the other TeAms to let you know what their clients will do.

Heh, as I remamber, this program what I am talking about was used to rebuild icons when win 98 crashes (this icons in system tray)...

i know that this problem was talk on UD forums, but I am too lazy to search there....

And Smokeball, are they will be good working at PII 300 or 500 MHz ?? (Under Win 98)

That is what they claim. I haven't tested it but it would be neat if you could give us a report with your experiences. 🙂

heh, I didn't knows that, because I don't use this programs..
But are they smaller than 1.44 Mb, to place it on floppy disc ??

And what with genome@home ?? is it avalibe to run it as servie under win 98 ??
I probably won't install Seti, as I don't see the sense of this project...

To post all, what I need on one place:
- program installator under 1.44 Mb (floppy disc)
- option to run as service - or option to remove it from system tray
- fast run under Win 98
- fast run at PII 300-500 MHz (64 Mb RAM or 32 Mb RAM)

The sense in running SETI is to search for proof of alien life😛 ,it also records other radio astronomical phenomenea 🙂(spelling??)

A PIII 500 will do S@H WUs in about 13hrs.

As for G@H ,very few people run that here ,I suggest if you want more info about it that you create a new thread with G@H in the title.
Also checkout the G@H FAQ in my lower sig link.
Good luck🙂

Hey, stop !
You guys can only talk about SETI ??
As for me, it is a very stupid project, and I won't participe it. Even it was the first DC project I heard about !!
(the first DC i have runned was UD)

Mori, a good place to start looking would be here if you don't know about this site already.
It has what must be the most comprehensive list of DC projects on the web.
It doesn't go into the technicalities but you could use it as a starting point 😀

Andy, do you really belive that I haven't visited this site before ?? :Q
I have done it many times, even bookmark it.

BTW. Someone knows what with MoneyBee (DC program), is it running ??
