Newbie Overclocker, any advice?

I have decided to start messing around with overclocking. I have been reading up on it and I have decided the best way to truly learn is just do it. I have an old IMB aptiva that has a K-6 @233 66Mhz buss. I know its not a wonderfull thing but if it blows I dont care, is an old system.I have begun to install a few fans,2coming in 2 going out. I also am getting a new heatsink. What I am not sure of is where to start, I have the following jumpers I can change. Core/bus frequency rate,Processor core voltage,and PCI bus frequency. In what order should I try to change them. I do understand what they do, just not sure what the best place to start is.

Start with the FSB!!

Increments of 5MHz should be OK. When you get to a point where the P.C. locks up, up the Vcore just a tad (increments of .05V or so if you can). Until it gets stable!! If it does!

The problem with your setup is the increments for which you can adjust, may not be allowable. You may not be able to adjust them in small steps, therefore at some point the jump you attempt to make may be too great for your proc to handle!

I don't imagine you'll get too much more juice from that K6-233, but you should be able to get a little more! It may be able to run @80MHz FSB....If you have that setting of course!

If you can leave it at the default of 33MHz, then do it! I think you may mean you can change the PCI divisor (is that right?).

If you can change the divisor, leave it at 1/2 of the FSB until you have the FSB over 80, than have the PCI at 1/3 of the FSB (if that is allowable). Either way, youhave to hope your PCI devices can run above 33MHz...
