hi, i dont know a thing about networking much so bare with me. thanks.

well, i got a d-link wireless router (DI-624), and a d-link wireless card for my dell laptop. My laptop can go online no problem.

Now my brother has a kinda old laptop comaq armada 7800, he just upgraded to XP on it and he now wants to go online (dont believe it went online before) on the side of his laptop is a slot for a cardbus and/or wireless card. WE bought another d-link wireless card just like on my dell and installed drivers and everything, but it dosnt go online, when we right click the icon to see any available networks it dosnt show anything. We even tried putting in that cardbus pc card and hardwired with a patchcord to the router but it still dosnt go online, im not sure if the slot is bad or is there something im missing? if you need more information let me know. Thanks for trying to help me!

pretty sure it does, whenever i insert it into the slot it makes that noise and the icon on the bottom right appears. if thats what you mean.

when i unplugged the patchcord from it and said 'unplugged' or when i take out the wireless card the icon disappears.

open a command prompt, type ping 127.0.0.1, this will test the NIC to make sure TCP/ip is bound to the card.
Make sure the Nic has An IP address, Is it the same network Number as the router, 192.168.2.# 255.255.255.0 and make sure the gateway is the IP address of the router
if it is Xp type ipconfig/all at the command prompt

Log to this page it has a lot of links to instructions to Windows Network Settings, and Sharing.
