Newbie needs Help, "Bios not found error"

Hello,

I just upgraded my Asus P2B to Asus p4c800 Deluxe and I have a strange
problem. "No Bios Found!" error. All I have done is basically just
changed mother boards,mem,|CPU and case.

When I bootup and run CMOS all the devices are found including the one IDE
hard drive on IDE1 master and the CD-R/w on IDE2 master. All are set to
Auto in CMOS. I have no other hard drives connected. As the system goes
through POST and gets to the Fasttrack 378 section, it attempts to boot
off the hard drive saying; searching......, NO Bios Found, then it goes
into a menu asking if I want to go into safe mode (which it can't). It
will continue in this loop until I go back to setup.


I'm running XP pro which I loaded 3 weeks ago (upgrade from Win 98) but
have not activated yet. The bios that came with the board is 1014, the
latest version is 1016.

When I removed the hard drive from the new system and moved it back to the
old system(P2b) it works fine, so it is not the hard drive.
I have tried changing the settings in "IDE configurations" several times
but never found a combination that would work. I also tried using the CMOS
defaults with no luck.

It sounds to me like it's a problem with your Fasttrack 378. Go to their website and see if there is a new firmware for it. Or special installation instructions.

Do those two mobo's share the same chipset drivers? If not, you'll need to install them for the new mobo

How does one install new drivers when I can't even boot into the OS. I heard that XP pro needs six diks to boot...or do I just need a bootable disk with CD support, and then load drivers from cd?

Fern is right. You will have to either reinstall windows booting with CD or with install disks, or you have to hook the HD back to p2b and go into registry and delete a bunch of motherboard specific stuff (i forgot which) and reboot with new motherboard. Unless those 2 have the exact chipset, you'll have to reinstall windows. Sometimes with the same chipset you still have to, I went from AN7 to DFI Ultra Infinity both have same nf2 ultra chipset and I had to reinstall. GL

Just spoke to the Asus tech dept and he confirmed what everyone has mention, a windows XP reinstall is what I need because of the different chipsets.
