I just started cracking RC5 Feb. 5 and I think I am doing OK. Juat have a couple concerns. I started out running one system and added a win 2000 dual system this week and think my totals should be higher.

System 1
win 98
P3 700@933
Asus CUSL 2
128mb PC133

System 2
win 98\2000
2 P3's 700@1000
MSI 694d VIA onboard raid
256mb PC133

With system one I was averaging about 2,500,000 to 3,200,000 keys/sec

Now system two seems to be giving me lower results. It is running at 2,300,000 to 2,900,000 keys/sec
Even under win2000

Is that low or am I nuts

well, each system could have different programs running in the background....right? That can be a difference right there.

FWIW, the 933mhz chip should get 2.6124Mkeys/sec, while the ghz should get about 2.8Mkeys/sec. That is, under ideal circumstances, where nothing but RC5 is running.

RC5 scales linearly with clock speed, due to it being able to fit inside the L1 cache of modern CPU's.

With System 2, it should autodetect the 2nd CPU when you're in win2k, and start another tread automatically....I hope it's doing that.

Not running screensavers or any kink of power down features. It just does not seem to be finding the second CPU on the new system.

I just restarted it and this is what I got.

[Mar 14 16:46:27 UTC] Automatic processor detection found 1 processor.
[Mar 14 16:46:27 UTC] Automatic processor type detection found
an Intel Pentium III processor.
[Mar 14 16:46:27 UTC] RC5: using core #2 (RG class 6).
[Mar 14 16:46:27 UTC] RC5: Loaded 16D1BC6A:70000000:8*2^28 (7.00% done)

hmmmm.... not seeing #2

Post your dnetc.ini file.. perhaps there's an answer there.

If the Dnet client is not seeing the second CPU, then it is very possible that Win2k is also not seeing it. Can you verify that you are indeed running SMP?

He also said he dualboots between 98 and 2k. Make sure you're in 2k to get the 2nd CPU. It's also possible that you installed 2k BEFORE the 2nd cpu was installed, in which case even 2k isn't seeing the 2nd CPU.

I can honestly say I don't know for certain . I know this only due to hearing people talk about it - I think what you have to do is to reinstall 2k again :(.

and....

BUMP because this guy can use a hand :)

I don't think you do have to re-install. There is some configuration that needs to be done, but, like BK, I don't know what it is. Sooner or later, a Win2K wizard will drop by with the answer.

Thanks everyone for helping.
