Okay I am trying to learn Linux and was hoping that I could install it on my computer so that I can get some practice. Anyhow I am trying to install Red Hat 7.3 and XP and I have search on the internet to find out how I can install. But I didn't find any article regarding dual boot in a raid system.

I am running a Gigabyte-GA-7DPXDW motherboard with a build in Promise fasttrak 100(tm). My setup is this...
2 x 80 gig HDD so with Raid it's 160gb
C drive is 50gb this is where XP is installed
D drive is 80gb
and an unallocated free space of 30gb for linux

I already have XP installed. I downloaded 7.3 from one of Red Hat's Mirror site.
In the begining when I inserted the Red Hat CD it will boot up and trying to "probe" the hard drive but failed to find the hard drive... so I searched around and learned how I can make a driver disk and have Red Hat install the driver for the promise card. Then I partition the 30 unallocated free space for Linux and everything went fine. Until after I got Red Hat installed. Now how do I boot to Red Hat? I wasn't able to create a boot disk when it prompt me to for some odd reason it won't accept my floppies (I tried like 4 of them).

I know that I am supposed to install /boot in the first 1024 sector.. but how do I do that when XP is already installed at that spot? I have tried using Partition Magic but each time it just make my computer freeze or causes an error (I don't think it supports RAID)..

Please help a newbie out
thanks in advance

Other than the boot disk, you did everything beautifully. But that disk is pretty important... you're going to have an awfully tough time getting back into RH now. While it's possible, it might be easier just to reinstall. And buy some new floppies first. Use the floppy to boot with until you get comfortable with the system and have time to read up on using LILO with the NT loader.

As far as /boot goes, it shouldn't matter about the location, since you're using a recent motherboard and recent LILO - that restriction hasn't applied to new machines in several years. My installation, also on a Promise RAID 0 array, starts around cylinder 6000.
