Newbie mouse problem old mb

I have an old P133 and the mouse is not working. The mb manuall calls it a 586 PCI All I/O Green & PnP Mainboard Intel Triton 430 VX PCI 597. I have clean installed both win 98 and 95B and still no mouse. The cursor is there and on start-up I get the No mouse detected screen but the serial mouse is not detected. I have tried different serial mice but no go. Can anyone give me a clue as to how to get a mouse working on this.thanks

Urm - it's a SERIAL mouse and it doesn't get picked up ...?!?!?

Now THAT is odd ... USB I could have understood ...

hrmm ... have you tried loading the drivers for it in DOS / for Windoze in the AUTOEXEC.BAT? That may help you 😀.

I had this problem a couple of time with my old 133 system. Do you have a serial to ps2 adapter you can use? and have you tried switching serial ports? If so then I'd start looking at either mouse drivers, resource conflicts and see if you can get any serial device on the port you're using.

I have an old 486 laptop and here's what I had to do. Load the mouse drivers then write an autoexec.bat file for the initial startup. Have it load the mouse first before windows.
