Newbie :help needed (again)

It means SETI Driver has finished crunching one work unit and is ready to send it, or you've sent the work unit and you need to download another one to fill up your cache. Click "Transmit" to get things moving.

Explanation

how often do i need to do this? and what can i do so i can leave my system on all day and have it do it by itself...desired cache is 10..does it need to be larger....i am sorry to sound like such a dumbas* =)

It looks like you have an always-on connection, so you can just check the box labeled "Auto Transmit" and then press "Save Config". Then, when you finish crunching a work unit, SETI Driver will automatically upload the results and download a new one.

I would guess your rig can do 4-5 work units per day. So, with a cache of 10, you'd be good for about 2 days if your internet service went out or the Berkeley servers were down. Most people like having 3 days worth of work units cached just in case there's an outage. With some of the problems lately with the Berkeley servers and OK's proxy, more people are upping the cache to a week's worth, just in case.

So, I'd increase the cache by a few work units. Just make sure to press "Save Config" after changing any options. 🙂

Set your cache up to a number high enough to have several days worth of work. My machine is a P3 866 and it does about 3.5 WU's a day so I set my cache size to 20, this way if there is a long outage and I cannot connect to download more WU's I keep going till they get the servers back up.

If you are NOT on a dedicated connection make sure and uncheck auto transmit. I am on ISDN so each time I dial in I open setidriver and click transmit to upload my completed WU's and Download new ones manually.

Don't worry about asking anything!

If you have a constant connection (cable, dsl or whatever), you can set it to automatically transmit with SETI Driver. Settings should be as follows if you do...

Hide Processing: X
Auto Transmit: X
Display Transmit:

As soon as you do that, then click on Save Config. See if that works out for ya...

EDIT: SHEESH! 😀 You guys are fast? When I clicked reply, I would've been the third/fourth post in this thread! Go TeAm!

Could be troubles connecting with the server/proxy that you're using. Mine turns yellow when I can't connect for some reason (be it my computer's issues or troubles with OK's proxy). Usually, clicking Stop Transmit and then clicking on Transmit clears up the problem. If not, then just wait awhile for it to get a connection again and repeat - you're still crunching WUs while it's yellow. If it turns red, then you've got a problem. Hope this makes sense...

Because it was ready to transmit and either:
A) there are some bandwidth issues were the severs are and it is having trouble connecting or
B) you didn't have auto transmit selected/or had and not clicked save config

My bet is on A

Are you running through orangekids proxy?

yes, i am through that prox

guess there is a problem with transmit, getting an error saying it has to retry in an hour

Make sure you have the proxy addy written in correctly.. Ive been using Orangekid all day with no problem.
