Newbie for overclocking

I haven't overclocked any of my cpu or memory before but I want to give it a try. I plan to get Epox 8RDA3+ and already have AMD XP 2500+ barton, 512mb DDR single stick of memory, ATi 9800 Pro, 450w power supply and so on.

Any input would be appreciated~😎
 
Here's how I learned to overclock: I used the "search" function. I'm not trying to deter your question or flame you, but honestly you'll get more answers when reading what settings people used and other tricks of the trade. You'll get a lot more info in the time it takes someone to answer a specific question.

No mobo can do a multiplier of 200. He means the FSB.

After my system detects my Barton 2500+ as 3200, the system resets itself quite a lot. Is there anyway to stop this madness?🙁
 
Increase vcore a bit, and watch your temps. If the temps aren't too high and it's still unstable, increase the voltage more. You may need to run at 5:4 divider if you don't have DDR400, or ram that can OC that high.

It's a OCZ PC 2700 512MB DDR

Thanks for your help guys. It doesn't reset anymore but I don't get something. Currently, I'm running AMD Athlon 2500+ Barton @ 3200+(2.2ghz)ATi 9800 Pro on Epox 8RDA3+ with OCZ PC 2700 512MB DDR.

Before getting 8RDA3+, I had MSI K7N2 Delta-L and while using it, a game's performance was a lot better than 8RDA3+. I mostly play Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield and FPS stayed at 60 most of time and that's with maximum details turned on. And also, cpu's FBS was at original 166mhz, not bump up to 200mhz. The only thing I did was turning on "high performance" in the BIOS menu.

With Epox 8RDA3+, running Athlon 2500 @ 3200+, the FPS on Raven Shield stays under 60 and sometime goes down around to 30. With night vision turned on, it goes down even further around to 10 to 15! Of course with maximum details turned on.

What am I doing wrong here?? Should I add more RAM?

I am also a n00b and I have had a skim through on key words, but I can't find the A,B,C's of overclocking. I have,

1 x AMD ATHLON XP2600+ 333MHz FSB - Thoroughbred - OEM
1 x PC2700 512MB 333MHz DDR DIMM
1 x A7V8X-X Asus MoBo

Do I raise the multiplier to overclock it, or do I raise the FSB? Or point me to a basic FAQ.

Turn off the "high performance" in your BIOS. That probably just drops your RAM timings to CAS 2.0 etc. Like Marvie says, relax the timings and try that. Have you tried bumping up your core voltage a little at a time until stable. I think most people will warn not to go over 2.0 V. First O/C though, you should probably see how far you can get with the multiplier, without jumping right to a 200 mhz FSB... Take your time, take benchmarks as you change settings.
 
My memory's default CAS is 2.0. I only changed FBS to 200MHZ from 166MHZ default. I didn't do anything to memory. And "high performance" option was for the MSI K7N2 Delta motherboard I had, and is not available in an Epox 8RDA3+ BIOS menu. I'll just add more ram and see if it makes any difference.
