Take a hammer for the tent stakes. I also make my own tent stakes from heavy gauge wire (like 1/4" thick wire) by bending a small (1") part 90 degrees (think an long 'L' where the bottom is 1" long) and griding them to a point on a metal grinding wheel (if you don't have a workshop this is probably beyond your ability).
The metal stakes NEVER go bad and won't snap in two like the plastic ones.
If your only option is plastic ones, get extra in case you break some off. You NEED to stake your tent down, never underestimate the wind.
Some fire-starting stuff is always handy. Newspapers work pretty well, just keep 'em dry
