I'm putting my computer together this week and I'm lost on how to make a boot disk to partition and format for NTFS. Can I use a win98 boot disk to do the fdisk in FAT32 and then get win7 to change it to NTFS? I'm planning on setting my c drive at 50GB and then divide the remainder into larger drives. Thanks

The win 98 disk will do that, as will an XP disk.

Partition Magic can do that too.

And, generically, UBCD (Ultimate Boot CD) is a tool that every user should have in the toolbox. That or Bart PE.

The Windows 7 RC bootable DVD will also allow you to do the same thing during the installation process .... It will also create another hidden partition of 100MB for system files.

The Windows 7 RC also comes with a tool that allows you to edit your hard drive, make partitions, etc. With the RC you can delete all partitions, and then make a limited size partition simply by entering the number of MB. If for some reason you can't get this to work, let me know, and I'll send you a bootable partition manager.

All of Microsoft's recent OSes have a disk manager as part of the install routine. Vista and Win7 give you access to all the features of Windows Disk Management.

Shouldn't GPartED work for this as well? Just trying to expand the range of options for anyone coming up on this thread later.
