I just bought 2 Athlon 1800+ processors for Asus A7m-266D

One processor is brown....the other is green......

Why is that? Are they different manufacturing plants?

The brown one works fine.....the Green one won't work in Duals on the asus...

thoughts?

It just means that one is newer than the other. AMD switched from brown to green (or green to brown, forget which), but otherwise, they're the same.

also, the newer one (green) will be locked from dual operation. Unfortunately you won't be able to use it in a dual rig. The brown one may or may not be locked.

not necessarily. the brown one that you have may not work in MP configs. Just because it's working on it's own doesn't mean anything. It's been a long time since they've made dual capable athlon xps. I think that you're likely going to have to get some MPs.
