I cannot access my external usb hdd. While defrag was running on this drive, I accidently shut down Pc without first stopping and closing defrag.
Windows xp service pk2. Drive is iomega 500gb. I opened the case and found a Seagate drive with attached card (controller?). The card has a usb socket. The drive does not appear in disk management anymore. Would appreciate any help/suggestions. I have already tried another port and cable. Also other drives connected to same port work good.

This drive, is it a small form factor drive? (that would house a laptop sized 2.5inch hdd?)


Either way, Put your ear directly to the drive, when you plug it in do you hear any noises?

I can almost guess that you will hear some either: musical sounds (like 8 bit game) or repeated buzz.


If so, you will need some pro help to recover data (if you do need the data) I can help there, you can PM me.

If the data isn't important. RMA it or buy a new drive.
