Okay sorry if I am totally missing this but I did not see a clear answer in the sickies.

I am moving into a new house, Charter Cable wants me to lease a cable modem from them for $10 per month. I would rather buy a modem myself, so i logged onto newegg sorted through the modems and was immediately confused.

Do I need to get a modem and a router? Is there one product that will serve as both a wireless router and a modem?

I was looking at getting the two products listed below unless I am totally missing something.

Router: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833124190
Modem: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16825122011

While those would work, I think that those options are sub-optimal.

You've selected a 'G' router, and a Docsis 2.0 modem.

You should really be looking at an 'N' router, and a Docsis 3.0 modem these days.

Be sure to verify with your cable company if they support Docsis 3.0. They should though. I know Comcast rolled out Docsis 3.0 a few years ago. It's basically required for supporting 100Mbit cable connections.

Edit: Here's some convoluted Staples B&M deal to get a Docsis 3.0 modem for under $20. Good luck with that.
