newb here. whats faster? Dual core 2ghz , or pent 4 3ghz?

Depends a lot..becase a 2ghz Core 2 duo, or 2ghz Althon X2 will still be faster than a 3ghz P4 in pretty much everything..now a 2ghz netburst based dual core chip(like the P4) would be slower in anything that wasn't written to take advantage of multiple CPU's.

Intel ® Core?2 Duo Processor E6400 (2.13GHz, 1066 FSB)

or

Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 524 (3.06GHz, 533FSB)

The fast initial post was wrong. Currently Core 2 duo stomps any Pent 4 3.0 GHZ. In fact, it stomps just about everything. If you go with a first - second generation Pentium Dual core, then you will see the 3.0 GHZ looking more appealing, any other Dual core is most likely going to be faster.

Depends on for what use. For single thread gaming, the 3GHz, but for multi-tasking, the dual core would be better.

No, the Core 2 Duo will be faster in single threaded gaming, and everything else. The E6400 will stop all over the 3Ghz P4.

Plus you can easily overclock the E6400 to 3.2Ghz.

The post was made before we knew the Dual-Core was a E6400.
