Just got a new vf900cu from the egg to put on my 7900gt. should I use the zalman grease that came with it or should I use ASC5? I have some in the refrigerator. If you would use the ACS5 instead of the Zalman grease, is it ok to use fresh from the fridge? Or should I let it warm to room temp? Thanks!

I doubt it would make a bit of differance; the 7900GT is an ice cube compared to some of the other chips out there.

.... but why is your AC5 in the fridge?

I'd just use the Zalman grease. It's non-conductive and will only suffer a 1C loss at most
over the AS-5. Plus it's super easy to clean up if you ever remove the sink.

Why in the fridge?? I can understand batteries but paste??

I used AS5, and it worked wonderfully w/ my 7600GT KO

45 C on idle - 60 C on load

much better compared with the stock

60 C on idle - 80 C ~ on load

Fresher??, it's not a jar of Miracle Whip. But as long as you can apply it properly it doesn?t mater what temp it is.

I have a 7900gt (evga CO revision) and I put a vf900 and as5 on it and it idles around 37 and hits 42 or maybe 43 load. if you have the as5, there's no reason not to use it. that's assuming you're going to be overclocking/voltmodding the 7900gt. if you're leaving it at stock, just use the zalman and save the as5. if you're ocing, let the as5 warm up.

WoW! I just installed the vf900 using the ACS5. Stock cooler idled at 50c and 61c on load. Now it idles at 33c and reaches 38c on load. This is just incredible temp drops. I'm so happy.

why you put grease in the fridge:
"Like any mix of particles that are many times heavier than the suspension fluid, there will be some separation in the compound over time when stored in the original syringe. (All thermal compounds eventually experience some separation in storage.) This does not affect the performance of the unseparated or remixed compound.
To keep the compound fresh for future applications, always replace the cap on the syringe after each use. The syringe should be stored tip down so that any separation that occurs will be at the back end of the syringe with fully suspended particles below that. Storing in a cool place like a refrigerator will also lessen the separation over time."

I love you:heart: You make me feel like a woman:music: But really thanks for backing up my crazy practice of storing ACS5 in my fridge.

I have heard it said that zalman grease is as good as AS5. So go figure.

I've wondered the same thing. Too much coincidence.
