I really want one now. I like how they gave you additional tools to mount the heatsink so that the fan blows to the back of the case if your motherboard wasn't positioned to do that in the first place.

Haha...this is great. I remember a while back...maybe a month or so ago I got pissed off and posted here asking if this thing came out. That thread quickly died. Since then, I must have seen 5-6 such threads posted about this cooler - usually about when it'll be out. I guess Zalman knows what the hell they're doing. They're building a lot of hype on this cooler. I wouldn't be surprised if their head marketers (like those of many other companies) come and visit these forums and see how we respond to this. Now all I want to see is a concrete release date and some good comparisons of it to the XP-90, XP-120, Ninja, etc.

??? isn't it better for a cooler to be small...as long as it's still efficient....and it's not that small, it's smaller than the cnps7700 by a little but it's taller

Wow is all I have to say. Just Wow

Besting a Zalman 7700ALCU by 13C is downright amazing and also beating a water cooling at the same moment given the same noise. When overclocking the P4 even further to 4.2GHZ quite a big gap opened up between the water cooling and the Zalman of over 4C. Amazing.

For those who haven't read the review it can be surmarised in these results:
Zalman 7700 --- Gigabyte 3D Galaxy --- Zalman 9500
69.5C -- 57.5C -- 56.6C --> p4 Prescott, 4.06GHZ, 1.35V
NA -- 64.7C -- 62.5C --> P4 Prescott, 4.2GHZ, 1.425V

That's with open air testing where the 9500 was at full speed in open air while all the different cooling solutions were producing the same level of noise.


Combine that with a case such as the P180 which is already thermally amazing but where the 9500 will blow straight out to the exhausts and you'll get some amazing cooling.

LOL. When the 9500 is compared to a real H2O setup, let me know. It's very impressive for air-cooling but still not in the same league as good watercooling.

I think the attempt was made to compare a starting basic water cooling setup with the Zalman 9500 to see if Zalman's claims about it being to be better than water cooling were true.

In this case they were proved true.

Although if you read the article he does say if he turned the water cooling setup up (and increased the noise over the 9500) it would probably surpass it.

However, the point is this beginning to approach more basic water cooling standards? The answer was yes, this cooler is a step in the right direction.

But still, a good water cooling setup done by someone with knowledge is still the best day-today cooling solution.

Don't feel your H2O setup is under attack - it's not yet. Simply put people may just be able to get far closer to your temps at similiar noise than before on air and on a cheaper budget.

Why does it have to be a blue LED fan? If you're adjusting the speed of the fan using, say, Q-fan on your motherboard, it's going to make the LED's go all flickery and crappy looking. Not to mention the possiblity that some of us may want a different color inside their case (if they have a window). I sincerely hope that Zalman makes this cooler in a "standard" version.

Who would run the CPU cooler in FREE AIR? Real-world performance should be within a few degrees C of the 7700Cu.

The older 7700Cu can use cold air from a side vent to cool the CPU. The 9500 must use heated air inside the case for cooling. There are too many uncontrolled variables in this test.

The 7700 heats up the air in the case, the 9500 more efficiently sends the heated air straight out of the case, so the air inside the case will stay cooler.
Besides if you got a case like the stacker you can put an empty hdd rack with 120mm fan right in front of it too :) For them this thing is going to be awesome!

The 9500 would be very good when put into a case with a front intake and back exhaust. The 9500 would draw the air directly from the front intake fan and exhaust it directly to the back exhaust. This would eliminate most of the heat caused by the cpu in the case. Now, this is only speculation, it should work as i stated but could somehow change depending on the case.
