NEW!! Zalman 7700 Cu, AlCu

Looking at the technical specs fo this cooler - it actually seems louder than the cnps 7000cu version. I have the cnps7000Acu, which goes to 25dba at max speed, but this will got to 32dba at max speed.

It will at max speed. The reason being that if they're turning the same rpm the larger fan will be noisier. The reason why larger fans are considered quiter is that they don't have to run at as high of speed to get the same level oc cooling, therefore they run slower and quieter.

I've got a 7000B-AlCu now and its a monster....

Given how tight things are inside my case, the 7700 wouldn't fit in mine frankly. The clearance between my existing 7000 and my case fan is hardly more than an inch as it is, so my gut feeling is that this thing would never fit at all.

Nice to look at tho 🙂

I ordered 2 of these for the store I work at and got them in today, they are huge, going to be taking one home tomorrow and giving it a try. Hopefully it fits my ASUS K8N-E Deluxe.

The 'Egg has them now. The AlCu version is $41 plus $6 shipping. Damn tempting. It will work with socket 478/LGA775/754/939/940. Only "current" socket it won't work with is A.

Hmm I just purchased an Antec SLK3700BQE, and a Gigabyte Ultra 939 mobo. Anyone aware if the 7700 will fit?

If your socket is close to an edge of the motherboard, then it won't work in the case because the HSF will stick out too far. If the CPU socket is more centrally located, then it will probably fit.

Just like the random events that affect human history, I might have sprung for the CNPS-7000-Cu if the motherboard I had at the time the Zalman became available had not been incompatible because of "AGP-proximity-to-CPU".

But I HAVE been pleased with my heatpipe coolers -- first the ThermalTake PIPE101 and now the ThermalRight XP-120.

Here's something else. The Zalman and other HSF models have been the focus of ducting mods which actually improve HSF performance. The ThermalRight XP series may actually lend itself to a simpler design for the "Foam-Board Mod" (see thread in this forum), because of the orientation of the heat-sink fins. With the ducting mod for the Zalman, you have to remove the proprietary fan and fit a duct-nozzle in its place.

My gripe with the 7700 is its size and weight. 938 grams? NINE HUNDRED THIRTY EIGHT GRA-AMS??!!!

I can just see the review description of an installation procedure: "We then attached the motherboard and case to the heatsink."

Even so, from the numbers reported to me by a friend who lives a few miles from here, the 7700 does what Zalman says it does. I just prefer something lighter that does just as well or almost as well . . .

Just like with the other Zalman models the pure Cu version weighs 50% more than the Al/Cu version. If you are concerned about weight or price purchase the latter.
