New Yorkers.....How much did you love Ewing? (another NBA thread)

He may be ugly....

I'm not from New York, but to me, Ewing and Knick basketball always went together. It's kind of sad to see him reduced to a worthless backup on Orlando.

So, can any New Yorkers give me the low down? Is there still much love for Ewing?

he had an ego problem :Q

don neslon, when he coached him, privately criticized his passing. donnie thought he
should do a better job of kicking the ball out of double teams, look for his teammates
more, yadda yadda. ewing took offense. he didn't think there was anything wrong
with his passing. their relationship died, what little of it there was. donnie thought
he had to work too hard to earn his trust. ewing, even at that point in his career,
was a 'needy case'.

during his last year or two in new york, when his skills has taken an obvious dip, he was
still demanding the ball in excess of his depleted abilities. his mates grumbled quietly, his
coach acquiesced in his favor, and nothing more was said or done.

ewing wasn't the sharp shooter he was after he fell and landed on his shooting wrist and all the time off he needed allowed others to semi shine during his absence. when he came back and showed his age and poor shooting + all the intangibles that shined on him unfavorably well then he lost favor in many ways.

IMHO it was his loss of touch as a shooter that hurt his game alot. If he had been able to retain his touch, even though he had gotten alot slower and lost some hop in his springs he would have been able to be more valuable to the team. (Like a baseball player that ends up being a full time DH on the AL).

There was the issue of the Knicks being better without him back then, I didn't feel that way, I felt there were SOME teams where he should sit out more minutes, but other teams he should be in there.

But I think the word was he wanted to be the man straight through. If that was true well he wasn't thinking of the team.

I didn't like what the Knicks got in return for Ewing. I totally dislike Camby, I totally dislike the team right now.
I can't wait till they clean house and build from the ground up, draft etc. They totally suck and they aren't entertaining to watch.
