2 great states in america. been to both states and currently residing at the empire state. YANKEES rule!!!

Having lived in both for many many years I give the nod to California. SoCal to be specific. I'll never move back to NY.

NY has beautiful countryside upstate and along Lake Ontario, the Adirondacks are very nice but it is too cold in the winter, too humid and buggy in the summer and taxes...well, that's probably a wash. I grew up in upstate NY, lived there for the first 22 years of my life.

California has gorgeous weather along the coast. Not too hot, not too cold. You can drive an hour and be in the mountains to ski during the winter or to the beach and 80 degree weather. I live in San Diego and absolutely love it here. Been in SoCal for the past 16 years.

Despite the high taxes, NY is still quite an affordable place to live with a family... I'm not certain about NYC, but most of the state doesn't seem to have experienced a massive real estate bubble.

Californians seem anxious to be recognized as 'cool' people 😕 Been to LA three times and once to SFO and never understood what all the hoopla was about. Even took the mandatory Beverly Hills tourist trip where I got to see the house that belonged to George Clooney's aunt in which he stayed for all of 4 months  NY is way better, but generally speaking I like living in the East Coast - there is simply no comparision between the quality of life, places of interest, culture and history in the East Coast vs the West Coast. Even the goddamn desert looks better in Nevada and Utah than in CA 😛

I just used the airport code to refer to the city - actually, I drove to San Francisco from LA (where I had driven to from Colorado Springs). Alcatraz was cool, the vineyards were meh, seeing Lombard Street was actually a life-long desire having seen it on a postcard as a child, GGB was big with some nice views of the ocean - saw a few other places too, but I came away thinking I didn't have enough reason to revisit San Francisco.

Never mind the fact that I never claimed to be an expert, but CA is just an ok place to me. I wouldn't have a problem living there, but it is definitely not on my top 5 choice of destinations. Californians just take rejection way too seriously. It's perfectly fine if a nobody like me does not love CA. You don't have to get all upset about it 🙂

Not upset at all, hell I don't even live there myself. I guess if I just drove up to SF from LA and just visited Lombard street, Alcatraz, the vineyards and GGB I wouldn't be overwhelmed either.

It's probably different for someone who lives there or has lived there previously. Both my brothers live in LA (I was there myself a few weeks back for my brother's graduation from Anderson UCLA) and they insist that it is paradise on Earth even though they have visited few places in the East Coast 🙂 If it matters at all, I took the city tour in SF too 😱 The bus driver showed us a rainbow flag hanging from a window and said that it meant the gay couple living there had just adopted a child 🙂 That's sweet, but not exactly tourist attraction IMHO

New york is a great city. The state as a whole isnt anything impressive
california is LA san diego, san fransico, san fernando valley, wine country, redwoods, beaches, hollywood, silicon valley.
