21 over is 6 points in NYS, hence the lumping in to that category.

Really? That's extreme. New yorkers drive like douches also. I bet the state makes a ton of money...

i remember reading how one state was trying to impose a "assement" fee of $1200 for any speeding ticket. it was something like $120 a year every year for 10 years.

there was a big argument and lawsuits over it. not sure if it got passed

You must be talking about my state, Va. The only state where it's against the law to live, if you choose to do so, you can, and will be fined! It was passed, but had to be rescinded a few months later, (that damn pesky constitution). They now just go door to door and take the first male child. Seems to be working for them, their claiming imminent domain.
BTW, the guy who wrote the law owned a huge law firm that defended people who broke it.
Be afraid, be very afraid, change is a coming.

Thank you for helping my state's economy.

Oh, and, yes - you're apparently an unsafe driver. You're oblivious to road hazards - the most obvious being the trooper sitting right where the speed limit changes from 65 to 55. What kind of an inexperienced driver doesn't realize that those spots are the best speed traps? And, in NY, when the speed limit changes from 65 to 55, there's a sign in advance warning you it's about to go down, and most of them (all?) also have bright orange markers at the top of the first 55mph sign, signaling to anyone oblivious of the previous sign that it's now a different speed zone. (And, the sign is on both sides of the road - the "I was alongside a semi and didn't see it" excuse isn't valid.)

p.s. if you're going 76 in a 65 in my area on the interstate, you WILL be ticketed. So it wasn't unfair that you were pulled over in the first place. Could have been worse - you could have been in Virginia.

Yup...

I wouldn't pay it. If it comes to bite you in the ass, claim you never got the bill.

Sure, that defense always work when it comes to the court system.

Well played.

Who must pay a driver responsibility assessment?

You must pay the driver responsibility assessment if any of the following incidents occur:

* you are convicted of an alcohol-related traffic violation and the violation occurred in NYS on or after November 18, 2004 (includes boats and snowmobiles); or
* you are convicted of a drug-related traffic violation and the violation occurred in NYS on or after November 18, 2004 (includes boats and snowmobiles); or
* a DMV hearing determines that you refused a chemical test and the refusal occurred in NYS on or after November 18, 2004 (includes boats and snowmobiles); or
* you receive six or more points on your NYS driver record during a period of 18 months and the violations occurred in NYS, Quebec or Ontario on or after November 18, 2004.

Sounds like you are not telling us more about the ticket or there was a clerical error.

You're correct. And that's exactly why New York sucks sweaty mongoose balls and can kiss my ass. It's NOT worth hiring a lawyer (as you stated). But the State of NY knows this already. And they went right ahead and passed this fancy new law full well KNOWING there'd be, oh, 42,072 people that will know that's it's "not worth hiring a lawyer" and just pay the fine...AGAIN.

You are an evil driver and a danger to everyone on the road. Blah, blah fucking blahdedeblah. You were driving 21 (OMFG..TWENTYONE!!!!!111!!!!!) MPH over the speed limit! YOu could've killed an endangered (insert lifeform here) or been driving through a "deaf persons crossing here" or running thru a "rockslide can happen here...slow down!" zone. Etc, etc. etc, etc. It's all your fault. /sarcasm

I fucking hate New York with every sinew in my body.

How is there a clerical error? He got a 6 point ticket after 11/18/2004.

You are right, OP's 21 mph over the limit was exactly where they start giving out 6 pts.

I just went to get my FL drivers license renewed and it wouldn't let me.
11 YEARS AGO!!!! I got a ticket in NC. I paid my fine, etc. well they apparently suspended my license at that time (even though I had a FL license) and I was supposed to pay an $50 fee to get it reinstated. no one told me....and how they hellcan you suspend a licenses I didn't have with them????

apparently FL and NC now talk thru a national database. To renew my FL license I had tocall NC, find out what the hell happened, pay $50 plus a $35 fee for a courier to get the payment to them just so I could renew my FL license.

USD should be worthless by then anyhow 😉

Would this work? Would the bank not accept the check because it is written 4 years ahead? What happens if the teller doesn't check the date, or is that something they always do?

boohoo. I had to pay it when I got a ticket back in 2006. The fine is disclosed on the DMV's website - you get more than 6 points on your license at any time or a DUI, you're automatically placed on this program.

21mph over the speed limit isn't a 6 point offense.

Yes it is: http://www.nysdmv.com/license.htm#points

LOL what a fuckin joke! Hit and Run (property or animal) is only 3, but 21 over is 6? BAHAHAHAAH!

Silly blue state.

LOL, that got me too.

And reckless driving is only 5 points. I'm glad I don't live in NY.

hell thats why u dont see any indian drivers there in USA even though we constitute the majority of the immigrants (as far as i know and as far as i heard abt H1-B visas)
i wonder how indian taxi drivers get driving license there

Yeah... I got one of those as well for doing 82 in a "55" zone. 55 my ass... all of the locals were doing 75. Best of all, the assessment was $300 a year for two years PLUS the $200 ticket... so they really get to screw ya.

Now I make a point to avoid New York whenever possible. If you're going to treat your visitors badly, you can rest assured that I'm not going to spend my vacation money there!

i'm sure Paterson thought this one up too. next up, he wants to throw a tax on hospital bills, and the patient has to pay it.
